The Truth of the Tea Party Election Success

Polls Couldn't Predict This

Many of our friends from cable news are quick to suggest that the recent victories of Tea Party candidates' success mean that the Tea party is on the rise. While I must admit that I am no expert, I do take issue with this assumption and offer this as an alternative.

What if the real reason that the Tea Party is so successful is because it was a republican primary and many strong republicans is so disenfranchised by their party that even though they may have participated in the poll, they conveniently forgot to show up at the voting booth during that time. I believe that in republican primaries, only those registered as republicans can vote so the numbers may not reflect the true total because some may have decided to wash their hair that night.

I find it quite hard to believe that those who truly believed that they are the party of Lincoln would stand by and allow their party to be taken over by those who so clearly "speak with forked tongue". I just have to think that they will not change their party affiliation but will turn out in the midterms overwhelmingly supporting the candidate that supports them. In my very own family, I have those who believe in the republican agenda but are so disappointed in the leaders that appear on the ballots as well as the actions of those currently serving. Will they vote their feelings during the midterms, only God knows for sure but to hear them talk leads me to believe that the Republican Party may be in for very rude awakenings come November!

It may have been more educational if all of those republican primaries had a "none of the above" on those ballots just to see how the outcome may have differed. The same can be said about the low expectations of Democratic turnout during the primaries as well. I do think that Democrats are very much aware of what is really happening in Washington which may also mean larger numbers than anyone expects come November. The question mark, I think, will be Independents. Generally Independents don't disclose their intentions and this time has been no different.

As a moderate democrat, I can only hope that the tea party candidates are pushing the moderate republicans into saner waters - there is always backlash for extremism and deep down I think the democrats are going to do much better than expected in the mid-terms.
