The Truth About Toothpaste - Healthy Alternatives

Sarah Rachel
Growing up we were told by our parents to always brush our teeth before bed. In fact many of us have this good habit ingrained in us automatically because of this. Although brushing your teeth is good and you should do it, there are a few things you should know about toothpaste. The truth is that most toothpaste is actually toxic. Just take a look at a tube of toothpaste and you will see a warning label stating not to ingest any of it, otherwise call the poison control center. These products pose long term health risks when used over an extended period of time. You're actually better off just brushing your teeth with plain baking soda.

Toxic ingredients in toothpaste

Sodium Luryl Sulphate- This is a very commonly used drying agent which also has a foaming effect, which can be found in toothpaste, hair care and other personal care products. It's actually good for cleaning grease off of a garage floor and manufacturers like it because it's really cheap. It is a very harsh toxic detergent. If too much is ingested it can be toxic to the kidneys, and liver.

Fluoride- This is said to be one of the most toxic ingredients known to man, and it's one of the major ingredients found in toothpaste. Many dentists even recommend it, which is another scary thing. It can even cause you to age at a more accelerated rate. Fluoride has also been used as rat poison.

Salicylates- Used in aspirin and other pain medications which can also induce allergies in some people.

These are only a few of the harmful ingredients found in most name brand toothpastes. Ditch the toothpaste and switch to healthy alternatives.

One Healthy Alternative-Tooth Soap- Non toxic Natural and good for your teeth

Tooth soap is a natural soap used to clean teeth, made from 70% organic ingredients, and other natural ingredients such as pure essential oils, coconut, palm, and extra virgin olive oils. They remove glycerin which is another common ingredient found in toothpaste that coats the teeth making it harder for the teeth to re mineralized. It is also a certified Kosher product by Star-K. You can watch several informative videos about tooth soap on you tube.

I've used a product called Tooth Chips - Soap for Teeth from Rose of Sharon Acres for sometime now. It's less expensive and they also have a line with Xylitol. It has significantly helped my sensitivity issues and my teeth have never felt so clean. My dentist is amazed that he hardly had to do any cleaning at my last appointment. You can find them at http://www.roseofsharonacres.com

I heard something about not buying toothpaste from dollar stores because shipments from China were supposedly tainted with toxic chemicals, but i've never heard anything like this before. Kinda scary!
