The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Movie: Most Anticipated Scenes

My Favorite Moments from Stephenie Meyer's ECLIPSE (SPOILER ALERT)

Maria Roth
I'm done apologizing for the fact that I enjoy Stephenie Meyer's Twilight novels. Of course they're not the greatest books ever written, and of course the movies aren't as good as the books. But I liked the first Twilight movie, despite the cheesy special effects, despite the fact that Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) isn't half as hot as Angel (David Boreanaz) or Spike (James Marsters) from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series. I was worried that The Twilight Saga: New Moon movie would suck (and I wrote an article about it-here), but, again, I ended up liking it, even though it's based on my least favorite novel in the Twilight series and is plain boring in parts. Eclipse is a more action-packed and Edward-packed novel, thank goodness, and I expect it to be a more exciting movie than New Moon.

To get ready for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse movie, which opens June 30th, I reread Eclipse and picked out the four scenes I'm most looking forward to seeing portrayed in the new film. I've caught glimpses of most of these scenes in the Eclipse movie trailers. (This Twilight: Eclipse trailer focuses on Bella and her two "men," while this trailer is clearly reaching out to guys who've never read the books but might still enjoy some good vampire ass-kicking.) I hope I won't be disappointed.

Most Anticipated Scenes in the Upcoming Twilight: Eclipse Movie, #4: Jacob and Bella's Kiss

Just to clarify, I'm referring to Jacob and Bella's second kiss, right before Jacob rushes off to fight the newborn vampires. Their first kiss, which Jacob forces on a very unenthusiastic Bella, doesn't count. It's this second kiss that makes Bella realize she really is in love with Jacob, almost enough to be with him.

I'm about 80% Team Edward, 20% Team Jacob. If those percentages were flipped, if my heart were more Jacob's than Edward's, I'd probably stand up and cheer when Jacob (Taylor Lautner) finally locks lips with Bella (Kristen Stewart). After reading Breaking Dawn, though, I have to say I'm vaguely disgusted by the idea of this kiss, the same way I am whenever I watch Star Wars and see Luke and Leia kiss on the lips, before they know they're brother and sister. I didn't know Jacob was destined to become Bella's son-in-law the first time I read Eclipse. Ugh! If only I could forget...

Most Anticipated Scenes in the Upcoming Twilight: Eclipse Movie, #3: Edward and Seth vs. Victoria and Riley

Bella, as usual, is the damsel in distress. What's great about this battle is that the good vampire and the sweet wolf boy work together to save Bella, and become friends in the process.

One of the Eclipse movie trailers shows us a scene from the battle we don't get to "watch" in the novel: the newborn vampire army vs. the Cullens and the Quileute wolves. I think, for the sake of all the boyfriends dragged to the theater by their vampire-and-werewolf-obsessed girlfriends, it's a good decision to show us that battle. Gotta give those poor young men something to enjoy after they've endured all the soap opera crap.

Most Anticipated Scenes in the Upcoming Twilight: Eclipse Movie, #2: The Tent Scene

Soap opera crap at its finest! God, I love this scene. Bella's freezing her butt off in the tent, and cold stone Edward can't do a thing to warm her up. Thank goodness hot-blooded Jacob is willing to share a sleeping bag with her. Ooo-la-la!

Most Anticipated Scenes in the Upcoming Twilight: Eclipse Movie, #1: Bella and Edward's Slumber Party

In Chapter 20 of Eclipse, Bella doesn't manage to seduce Edward, darn it, but she does finally agree to marry him. Remember when Saint Edward tells Bella, "Would you please stop trying to take your clothes off?" Is this guy for real? No! But that's why we love him. (Once again, Edward Cullen, I have to ask, Are you certain you want to marry Bella?Wouldn't you be better off with an older woman? Someone who never once lusted after a werewolf? Did I say I was 20% Team Jacob? I wasn't serious-I'm 100% Team Edward! I'll meet you at Isle Esme...Bella never has to know.)

I feel I should mention another part of Eclipse that I thought was well-done. I doubt this scene will make it into the movie, but on the off-chance that Stephenie Meyer reads this, I want her to know how much I enjoyed sitting by the campfire with Bella and Jacob, listening to the old Quileute stories-learning how they progressed from spirit warriors to shape-shifters, and how Taha Aki's third wife sacrificed herself to save her tribe. That was fascinating stuff!

What are you most looking forward to seeing in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse movie? (I think my husband is ready to see Edward and Jacob rip each other's heads off...) Leave a comment below.

Totally meant to read this when you wrote it, Maria, but now I remember... my life had exploded w/ visiting relatives that month! Despite my cynical & AC-documented attitude toward Poufy-do Cullen & the whole sexy undead lover theme, I have to admit to having a visceral response when Wolfboy Jacob hit the screen, even in the 1st movie. And *that's* before he buffed up! So your attraction to young Undead Eddie doesn't even make you a cougar, girlie. You're too young! (And after all, wasn't Edward born eons before you?) Ok, despite my claim in my Twilight article in Jan ’09 that I would eschew the series, your deliciously lurid description of warm-hearted, hot-blooded Jacob slipping in against poor little Bella’s freezing body under the covers inside the tent (Get my smelling salts… I'm about to swoon!) has made it imperative that we rent it. Now. Now! NOW! (But first, Doug, my blood pressure medication…) Whew! ; D

I never really got into any of these movies (so obviously never read any books either), but my girls really like them (for some reason).

Soap opera crap is one persons treasure. Wait, is this a cameo appearance by Paul Rance below! I noticed Paul!!! Anyway, I don't watch tv because the reception here sucks and we just don't want to cut down a bunch of trees to get satellite but I would love to be kissed by a vampire...a hot vampire...with short fangs and blue eyes. Ahhh, don't tell Mesei.

If the Twilight books were as good as this article I would have read more than just the first chapter! I hope the movie is all you want it to be! Love the pic!

This is why we should live near one another and be best friends. ;) THANKS!!

Trying to sneak on here unnoticed... I suspect (if I ever get this tax thing sorted) that I'll get assignments for Twilight, so can you write the pieces for me? Haha. You know your onions re T, but it's passed me by somewhat. Every young and middle-aged woman seems into it. Like a Sex in the City for vampire lovers???

I've never read the books or seen the movies, but I'm always on the lookout for new guilty pleasures, so maybe it's time I started!
