The Two Best Music Festivals in the United States

Penny Richards
Music is part of the fabric of America, with every generation of United States citizens having their own favorite musical artist or performer. For you, it could be Stevie Wonder. Or The Carpenters. Maybe it's Helen Reddy, or The Temptations. For country music lovers, favorites could be Clint Black or Alabama. Hip-hop fans might name Guns ' N' Roses. The list goes on and on.

Nowadays, popular music playlists include punk rockers like Anberlin or Relient K, high-energy pop groups like Jump5, or groove queens Gwen Stefani or wondergroup Superchick, or club-friendly musicians such as Timbaland or Nelly Furtado.

However, there's just something timeless and beautiful about two particular music genres that seem to surpass and transcend the passage of time itself, a daring feat that not many trends or styles can lay claim on. No matter your age, the year you were born, or your favorite modern music artist, JAZZ and CLASSICAL music offer something that appeals to young kids, rebellious teenagers, trendy hipsters, and aging retirees. Jazz music and classical music have always attracted fans from every age range and socioeconomic background. And there are several music festivals scatted around the US, each offering one offering either jazz or classical music, that rank as the best music festivals in the entire country.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra

The Boston Symphony Orchestra is one of the best orchestras in the United States. It is just entering its 127th year of performing for a national and global audience, with its home base of performances located at Tanglewood. For a 127-year-old music group, the Boston orchestra is definitely moving with the times: Just recently, it started putting up some of its musical performances on the Apple iTunes music store for downloading onto your PC or Mac and listening to on your iPod. Bravo!

You'll have to either pay per performance that you attend, or buy a season pass or season subscription that allows you access to their classical music performances. Buying a season subscription is definitely the best deal for your money, but think before purchasing it: Will you be visiting enough orchestra performances to make it worthwhile to buy a subscription?

The Boston Symphony Orchestra is definitely a must-see for classical music lovers, or people who just want to enjoy a classy night out on the town experiencing high-end music. It is a perfect conclusion to a delightfully fancy gourmet dinner at some fine restaurant with a lover or friends (or both: Make it a double date!). The symphony orchestra's fine renditions of classics by classical music composers such as Bach are like an extra-expensive glass of exclusive Chardonnay: Like the wine, it is meant to be enjoyed slowly; orchestra performances can run long, so plan ahead for that.

Music Festivals Organized by Festival Productions

Festival Productions has been organizing and managing fantastic music festivals in the United States for the past fifty years with no signs of letting up. They know what they're doing and have a knack at throwing successful events as varied as a Playboy concert to a heritage concert in New Orleans.

Festival Productions hosts several top-notch American music festivals year-round that have garnered festival-goers' raving music reviews. The best, and by far the most popular Festival Productions-run music festival, is a series of music celebrations called the JVC Jazz Festivals.

Jazz gets me going with its awesome instruments. There are a handful of JVC Jazz Festivals that occur across the continent, from Chicago, Illinois to New York to Los Angeles, California (when visiting Los Angeles, don't forget to check out the Walt Disney Concert Hall). There are even JVC Jazz Festivals thrown in Warsaw, Poland and Paris, France; more reasons to take a European vacation. But why travel across the Atlantic to enjoy a great jazz festival right on our own American soil?

So you see, there is a great musical heritage in the United States, and there is no better time than now to enjoy the great choices in classical and jazz music festivals offered across the country throughout the year.

    Uh...Guns N Roses is not hip-hop. Most hip-hop fans wouldn't know G'N'R.

Reliant K is one of the least punk-rock bands I know.

    Well done. Thanks.
