The Two Best New Preschool Cartoons

Vicki Gamble
Toddlers love television. As parents we try to restrict the amount of television that we let them watch. Sometimes it is inevitable though; they are going to watch it. The best thing that parents can do is try to keep them from watching mindless TV. Television producers are coming up with educational preschool cartoons every year.

The best new cartoon is "Ni Hao Kai-Lan". This exciting show comes on Nick Jr. and will have your preschooler in awe for at least 30 minutes. As they spend time with Kai-Lan, they will be immersed in Chinese Culture. Learning new words and Chinese traditions, your child will also learn about other ways of life. They
will see how Kai-Lan's world is surrounded by other cultures and backgrounds, and how well she adjusts to it.

Beside's this adorable five year old girl, the characters you will see is YeYe, Tolee, HoHo and Rintoo. YeYe is Kai-Lan's grandfather and he takes quite a bit of time with her teaching her customs and traditions. He is very gentle and patient with his inquisitive granddaughter. Tolee is panda loving koala. Tolee's job is to help figure things out. They all rely on him for answers to their tough questions. HoHo is their energetic three year old friend. This monkey is full of life and always loves to be in the middle of everything. Finally is Kai-Lan's best friend Rintoo. Like her, he is 5 years old and very adventurous. The group works together to teach your child social and emotional values, along with mind and body connections. Make it a part of their day.

Another show that has hit the television waves is "Super Why!". If you haven't seen this show on PBS, then you need to check it out. Using fairy tales to teach phonics, your children will love all the rhyming and action. They already know many of the tales, like Hansel and Gretel and the Three Little Pigs. Why not combine these already beloved stories with characters that teach letters and phonics along with them?

The creators of "Blue's Clues" produced this show. For those preschoolers that are on the cusp of learning, this will just reinforce what they are seeing and hearing from you. The main character is named Wyatt Beanstalk. He is supposed to be Jack's little brother. As he leads your child through a tiny door in a bookshelf, they will be transformed into the magical world of Storybook Village.

If you aren't fond of your preschooler watching television, I can assure you that you won't mind them watching these two new shows. A day of television can lead them to a world of learning, enchantment and friendships that they would have never found before.
