The Ugly Dog Breed Awards

Okay, I know looks aren't everything. But honestly, these poor canines got ripped off in that department. 'Don't judge a book by its cover," they say. Obviously, they have never seen these dogs. Here are the top ten contestants in the Ugly Dog Breed Awards (click on the breed name for a picture):

Bichon Frise

This dog brings to mind Dark Helmet. You know, from Space Balls? Poor little fellow; honestly, would you want to be the owner of a helmet-shaped head? I think not.

Mini Schnauzer

There just isn't a pretty thing about the Mini Schnauzer. Its body looks deformed, and it has quite the beard. Which, by the way, is no more attractive on a human than it is on this poor pup.

Bedlington Terrier

Mohawks had their day and time. It has, thankfully, come and gone. Except for this guy-- looks like he's stuck in the 90s.

Lowchen

Anyone else think it's hard for this guy to see, or is it just me? And what's up with that tail?

Komondor

I personally find it a bit off-putting when my dog looks like a household cleaning tool. Just soak him in some Pine-Sol and slide him around, you'll have a shiny floor in no time!

Bouvier Des Flandres

That dog looks like a gremlin. I'm actually a little afraid of it.

Afghan Hound

Anyone else think of Fabio when they see this? I can hear it now "I can't believe it's not butter!"

Portuguese Water Dog

I have great respect for that dog. To go through life looking like Little Richard is no small feat.

Chinese Crested

Do I really need to say anything? If you can't see why this dog is ugly, then you either need glasses or a mental evaluation.

And our number one contender...

Kerry Blue Terrier

Could someone point out this dog's face for me please? I am assuming it does indeed have a face, but I can't be sure. It's obvious why this particular breed is number one.

All jokes aside, these dogs do make great pets. While undeniably ugly, each and every breed has benefits that make it a great addition to any family. If you are looking for a loving canine with a great temperament, those above are wonderful options, as long as you don't mind your friends and family saying "What is that thing?!" and constantly having to prove that it is indeed a dog, of course.
