The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights Season Premier Summery

Kimbo Slice Vs. The World

C.B. Jones
What do you get when you put a bunch of Lou Ferrigno Fan Club members in a house together, and set up a handful of sanctioned fights between them to find out which are worthy of an Ultimate Fighting Championship contract? You get the 10th season of Spike TV's reality show, The Ultimate Fighter.

Haven't watched this series since The Comeback season I use bummed out that Shonie Carter's spinning back-fist didn't grant him overall victory, but the typical drama and egotistical bollocks you come to expect from just about any reality show was on point that season. Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights looks like it'll carry on that long standing tradition.

Right of the bat, I noticed that Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Rashad Evans are polar opposites of each other. Evans seemed to have a plan when selecting his team, while Rampage just wanted the biggest guys in the building on his side. Evans wanted to see the fundamentals from the shows contestant, while Rampage just wanted to see them beat the snot out of each other right right away.

Aside form the back and forth trash talk from this seasons team captains, You have Internet Phenom Kimbo Slice trying his hand at becoming a UFC star. The big question leading into this show was simple: Is Kimbo hype or heat? Will he get exposed on this series as just a tough street fighter who isn't good enough to stand toe to toe with professionals, or will he unleash an inferno of punches to his opponents face, and gain repect from Mix Martial Arts purists?

Unless Rampage teaches this guy a few submissions, and helps him develop a good throw defense, I could see Kimbo being eliminated before the halfway point of the season. He's a Target. Some of the other fighters are bitter over all the attention he's getting, and feel as though they all have something to prove. Whoever gets an opportunity against Kimbo Slice first, will bring their A game and try to finish him off in the first round.

Standout moment(or crazy stuff I wouldn't want a kid to see, if I had one) happened after the beat down Abe Wagner received at the hands of John Madsen. Not only did he leave a pool of blood on the mat, but the camera guy did a close up of the skull deep gash on Abe's forehead. Not only was it disgusting, but it also served as a dead giveaway of who's team will stand victorious at the end.

Madsen Vs. Wagner was warm milk. Rampage didn't think this match selection through, and got exposed for being a knucklehead because of it. Instead of owning up to his own bad decision and apologizing for sending Wagner(who cant defend against a takedown to save his life) to slaughter against a wrestler, he instead told his team to not touch gloves when fighting against Team Rashad members.

A pre-fight gesture is not why that guy got pummeled. It was like putting Thomas Hearns and Kurt Angle in a ring together, in their primes. having knockout power means nothing when your opponent can easily get in close, grapple you down to the floor, and rain down fists and elbows for the entire match.

At the end of the show, a preview of notable events in future episodes was shown. Quinton "My Favorite Video Game is Rampage" Jackson was shown tearing down a door. Why? Because it makes for great television, and he obviously has anger issues. If I had cameras following me around, documenting my failures leading up to a fight against the guy who's co-hosting a show with me, I'd probably take it out on a defenseless door as well.
