The Ultimate First Date Guide for Men

The first date is always a bit nerving but also a bit exciting. You're getting to know someone new and the entire thought of "she just might be the ONE" is always exciting. But you're nervous wondering whether or not she'll like you and want to see you again. Below are some tips to help you through the first date and up your chances for a second one.

Choose an appropriate first date. You want to get to KNOW her. A movie isn't good for this. A movie allows you to spend 90 minutes or more with a woman in silence and after the movie, you don't know any more about her than you did before. A nice dinner and drink is always a good way to get to know each other.

Dress appropriately. First of all, IRON. If you don't know how or you're not good at ironing, take your shirt hot out of the dryer and hang it. Women don't want to see you wear a wrinkled shirt on a first date. I'm not saying that you have to dress up in expensive attire but dress for the date. If you're going to a dinner in a fancy restaurant, dress in a nice pair of dress pants and shoes with a nice shirt and sport coat. If you choose to wear a tie, don't do the clip on. Many women can spot it and they see it as being lazy. If you're going to an Applebee's or equivalent, wear some khaki pants and a nice shirt or sweater. For any dinner date that's a first date, stay away from jeans and sneakers. There is nothing wrong with wearing jeans and sneakers for some outdoor first dates.

The conversation. Women love a guy who knows how to listen. Keep talking about yourself to a minimum. If she asks you a question about you, go ahead and answer it but spend most of the conversation asking HER questions and even if you're not, act like you're very interested in what she has to say.

If it's a daytime or lunch date, try to include something fun. Take her to a go cart or bumper car track or a paint ball war place.

And don't take her to a fast food place. Nothing says cheap like Arbys.

As far as drinking. Be a bit classy and order a nice wine but keep it at a minimum. Don't get drunk or even tipsy.

Manners and edict. At the dinner or lunch date, open the door for her, help her off with her coat, pull out her chair and after she steps to the table, push the chair up behind her gently. During dinner or lunch, keep your elbows off the table, look her in the eyes when she's talking to you, don't talk with your mouth full, take your time eating, and for heaven's sake, chew with your mouth closed. She doesn't want to see your mouth contents and hear your lips smacking while you're eating.

If you can include romance and fun in the first date, she'll know you're a good catch and the chances of a second date are far better. So do your best to include both romance and fun.

After the date and when you take her home. Walk her up to her door, depending on the vibes you're getting from her, give her a kiss on the cheek or a hug. If you kiss her on the lips, don't stick your tongue down her throat. If she's into that so soon, let HER take it to that level.

And if she asks you up to her place or inside her house, don't assume that you're going to get sex or that sex is her objective. Sure it COULD be but not always. And it would be wise to tell her that you're very attracted to her, (if it went well) and that you'd like to see her again but that you want to take things slow and wait until the two of you know each other better. That will put you apart from the many of the guys in a good way and you'll gain some good points for being the gentleman. Good luck and have a great time.
