First must remember as you prepare for an LSU tailgating party is that everyone at an LSU game is family. If you are bringing your whole Krew or just your best friend you must be prepared. If you are planning on flaming up the grill make sure you are bringing plenty of food for those who are going to stop and chat about the upcoming game. However much food and beverage you are planning on bringing make sure and triple it. Heck, you might even quadruple it. Make sure and stick with cajun favorites. Boudain and sausage links are good appetizers. Gumbo, jambalaya, and anything else that you can mix a little louisiana hot sauce into will be a sure hit. If you really want to make some new friends throw in some meat from the hide of your evening's enemy. Gator Gumbo, Gamecock soup or some Razorback ribs would be greatly appreciated.
Second you must have the appropriate cooking supplies. Don' show up in Baton Rouge with some dinky grill. Go Big! Afterall, your going to need enough room on the grill to cook for a couple thousand of your new best friends. Make sure your grilling utensils are plentiful as well. Other supplies your going to need will be some Tony Chachere's, Louisiana Hot Sauce, tons of napkins and paper towels to wrap up your links and clean up later, forks, spoons, and a kitchen sink.
Third, you must have at least a radio loud enough to be heard after a Tiger Touchdown. A TV would be great, and as always the bigger the better. You will be a hit if you can show any of the afternoon games while passerby's check out your spread
Fourth, you must be prepared to see anything. I have seen some things when tailgating at an LSU game that were absolutely astonishing. If your bringing your kid, make sure and warn him or her that nudity, drunkeness, and lewd behavior is just a sampling of what you will see. Just remember, it's what makes an LSU game what it is...even if your wife disagrees.
Fifth, make sure and wear as much purple and gold as humanly possible. You do not want to be mistaken for an enemy. Colors that are unacceptable at an LSU game are any combination of blue and orange, maroon, red or anything that is not purple and gold. If you really want to embarrass a friend, make sure and have them wear the opposing team's jersey. Just the thought of this cracks me up.
Lastly, be prepared to spend every Saturday in the fall for the rest of your life at an LSU home football game. Once LSU tailgating gets in your blood you can't get it our. Even if you can't get tickets you will just have to be around those other rabinous fans. Just remember that there is a party before the game, there is a party during the game, and there is a party after the game...at least for those able to walk and drool.
