If you have children or are having family and friends over for an Independence Day dinner then you might want to explore the wonderful world of Fourth of July desserts and treats. There are literally hundreds of them out there. Some are nothing out of the ordinary, but others were conceived purposely to express a patriotic flavor for the nation's birthday.

There are numerous Fourth of July desserts and treats, ranging from a massive array of cookies, cheesecakes and ice creams right through to birthday cakes and candies. However, if you are looking for a dessert that proves to be a winner with the whole family every single time then there is only one of the Fourth of July desserts to choose...

The All American Trifle

The All American Trifle is a true red, white and blue dessert that everyone can enjoy. It is literally red, white and blue as well so it will brighten up your dinner table! Best of all though, it is really simple to make... perhaps the simplest of all the Fourth of July desserts and treats out there in actual fact. Even if you cannot boil water without burning it, you can make the All American Trifle!

The Ingredients

4 cups boiling water
2 cups cold water
2 cups strawberries
1 cup raspberries
1 packet red gelatin (any flavor)
1 packet blue gelatin (any flavor)
10.75 oz. pound cake (frozen is fine as long as it is thawed)
8 oz whipped topping

The Method

Before you start preparing your All American Trifle, you should prepare the gelatin. Prepare the two flavours in separate bowls and add 2 cups of boiling water to each. Stir them well until all of the gelatin is completely dissolved and then add a cup of cold water to each bowl to help the setting process. Place the bowls in the refrigerator for around 2 hours to make sure they are both set.

Now cut the pound cake into rough half inch cubes, and chop all of the strawberries in half. You should also cut the gelatin into half inch cubes.

Line the bottom of a trifle bowl with the red gelatin cubes. Add the pound cake cubes on top of the gelatin and then spread half of the whipped topping all over the pound cake layer. Layer the strawberries and raspberries on next before adding the blue gelatin cubes and the rest of the topping. You should refrigerate it for around an hour before you serve it, but that is literally all there is to it!

As Easy As Pie!

As you can see, the All American Trifle is one of the easiest Fourth of July desserts to prepare and one of the most delicious to eat! You can get the children to help out or make it themselves so they feel involved, or you could even make it as a last minute treat. The choice is all yours but the taste is well worth what little effort you have to put in!
