The Ultimate Second Life Builders Kit

Carrie Lowe
If you have ever played the game Second Life you have no doubt come across some form of content that has been created by a player. With types of content ranging from clothing, to buildings, and even furniture it is amazing some of the items that have been created. Most people are bitten by the creation bug at some point and like to dive right in and create something themselves. In order to really get started though it is very important that you take the time to put together a good builder's kit that will allow you to work quickly and effectively with as few problems as possible.

Textures - This is the actual design that your item will use. A plaid skirt for example would need a plaid texture; a leather item would need a leather texture. The choices of textures are huge; they cover everything from water slides, to clothing to even buildings. With more than one million textures located in the second life world, there are plenty that you can choose from. Getting a custom texture can cost a small fortune, but having the wrong texture can have your items looking poorly made. A good quality texture is not easy to find, but it can be very much worth the time and effort that you spend getting them.

Texture Organizer - If you really want to get started building you are going to acquire a lot of different textures. If you are like myself, your collection can quickly reach the thousands. In order to build quickly and effectively with the best results you will need to invest into a texture organizer. These organizers can range from the very simple, to the extremely complex. In order to actually acquire the best usage you need to find an organizer that actually fits your needs.

Patience - This is something that might seem extremely strange, but wait until you actually get started building. The amount of time and effort that it will be required to create objects is going to vary significantly depending on the item that you are trying to create. For some people building will come naturally, however, for others it will take an extensive amount of time, practice and patience. As you attempt to create the best outcome for your creations, you will find that patience is going to be one of the most important aspects. It will allow you the patience to create a special masterpiece, whether you decide to keep it only for yourself, or you decide to share it with the rest of the Second Life world.

  • Good quality textures - at least a 128 x 128 pixel. The higher the pixels the better the quality.
  • A good quality texture organizer is an investment in yourself and your skills.
