The Ultimate Steal-Microsoft Office for Only $60

Get a Nice Discount with Microsoft's Ultimate Steal Program

Software Theft?

I just bought my own Microsoft Office Professional 2007 through Microsoft's Ultimate Steal Program and paid $60. Yes, it sounds crazy. No, I'm not kidding. Microsoft has had the Ultimate Steal Program going for a while now, and it has been successful enough to extend the promotion through December 2010 (according to the site).

Microsoft Office Versions

The Microsoft Office Suite is one of the most popular computer programs around. It has several versions, including Microsoft Office Student and Microsoft Office Pro. The Student version is cheaper than the Pro version, but it doesn't contain all the goodies, either.

For instance, the Microsoft Office Student version contains Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Compare that with Microsoft Office Pro, which has Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, and Outlook with business contact manager. It is easy to see why the prices of these two version vary so much.

Price Comparison

In order to give you a little comparison for how amazing the $60 price tag is, here are a few relevant places to comparison shop for Microsoft Office software. Newegg, a great site for purchasing digital software and hardware, has Microsoft Office Professional 2007 on sale for $379.99. TigerDirect, another great place for electronic- and computer-related buys, has Microsoft Office Professional 2007 on sale for $444.99. So, now do you catch my drift? Not only are you getting the top of the line Professional version of MS Office, but it is only $60!

The Catch

There is a catch, however (there's always one). According to the Terms and Conditions page on the Ultimate Steal Website, the following conditions must be met to satisfy eligibility for the program:

1. .edu: Individual must possess a valid e-mail address at a U.S. educational institution which contains the domain suffix .edu; OR

Pre-Approved School List: Enrolled in a U.S. educational institution included on the pre-approved school list; OR

Submission of school enrollment: Submit verifiable school enrollment via the validation process; AND

2. Individual must be a student at a U.S. educational institution and must be actively enrolled in at least 0.5 course credit and be able to provide proof of enrollment upon request.

Blah Blah Blah

How to Get the Goods

If you decide to make the Ultimate Steal and purchase the program, it is downloaded to your computer after the transaction. If you're like me, and you'd rather have a CD copy "just in case," one can be cheaply. They will ship you the Microsoft Office Professional 2007 CD, and you'll be in business! Tell your friends about this, because they will be thankful. I have recommended the Ultimate Steal to at least a dozen people, and they all have purchased the program, because it is such a great buy.

  • The Ultimate Steal Promotion allows users to purchase an expensive program cheaply.
  • Microsoft Office Professional includes programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, etc.
  • The main catch is that the buyer needs access to a ".edu" email address.
These programs can sell for as high as $500, but the Ultimate Steal Website will allow users to pay only $60.

Thanks for your article! I saw it linked on the Just for Fun forum. I've been accepted to grad school. I'm not sure if I'm going yet, but if I attend, I'll definitely take advantage of this deal. :)

I use a lot of freeware, too, Jesse. But like you said, sometimes, all you can use is Microsoft Office!

  • Jesse Mathewson12/12/2008

That works, I use some really cool freeware setups. However, sometimes you have to use Office so GREAT deal.

That's technical speak. :-) All the rules/regulations/etc. get annoying rather quickly.
