One of the first things that I'd put on my wish list for ulcerative colitis sufferers would be a cure. However, this would be mostly unrealistic. It's just something to hope for. Other things that I would add to my wish list would be specialized food sections in the grocery stores. I would love to be able to find an aisle in the store dedicated to "special needs" eaters. It would be great to have a section, even if small, that offered foods friendly for ulcerative colitis sufferers. I'd love to be able to do my shopping quicker and find the foods I need or want in a dedicated spot. Right now I have to run around the store looking at everything to see if it will be a problem for me or not. Just the ease of knowing all the foods that are UC friendly are in one area.
Another item I'd like to add to my wish list would be more restrooms in public areas. Specifically I'd really like to see at least one private, one stall restrooms (in addition to the usual public restrooms). It would be nice to have some privacy should I have a flare up in an inconvenient place. Or in the very least a few extra stalls in the restroom. It's very frustrating, painful and sometimes impossible to wait for a stall to open up when a restroom only has a couple.
I would also like to add to the list a special section on popular restaurants menus for people with various conditions, such as ulcerative colitis. Even if they don't offer anything new for UC sufferers, it would be nice to find a list of UC friendly foods that they offer. It's really hard to eat out as most places do not offer foods that are UC friendly for me. Just being able to find a restaurant that thinks about people other than those dieting, watching fat content or sodium would be an amazing gift to me.
And finally, I'd really love to see more ulcerative colitis support groups. I would love to see these not only online, but also in my hometown area. It would be of tremendous help to me to have more people to talk to about this condition. They might be able to provide more insight than I already have. I'd love to find other peoples helps, other peoples likes and dislikes, and I'd love the feeling of having a "family" of sorts to go to when in need.
I'm sure I could add many more things to my wish list, but for the most part, these are the things that I would really love to see someday. It would make all the difference in my life if even one of these wishes came true for me.
