The Ultimate New York Diet by David Kirsch--Does it Work?

Review: The Ultimate New York Diet by David Kirsch--Does it Work?

The Ultimate New York Diet by David Kirsch promises, besides other health benefits, to help you lose 14-lb in two weeks.

My friend recently picked up David Kirsch's book in the bargain bin. She only wanted to drop a couple of pounds for her sister's wedding. I found the book on her kitchen counter, and gave it a thorough read, because the title is somewhat intriguing.

In my opinion, the Ultimate New York Diet implies it works in a New York Minute--and that sounds like a crash diet. And crash diets are, generally, never a good idea.

If you want to start a diet, always ask your doctor. Also, ask yourself question such as:

What does the diet cost?

Is it a lifelong plan, or just for a couple of weeks?

Is it a healthy, balanced plan?

And, obviously, is there evidence that the diet works?

By the way, Supermodel and Seal's wife, Heidi Klum, claims that the Ultimate New York Diet got her back in shape in as little as two months after giving birth to her second child.

The upside about The Ultimate New York Diet

Many tips for people short on time.

The quick 10-minute workouts are easy to incorporate in your daily schedule.

David Kirsch's diet plan allows a cheat day.

Creative tips such as bringing an exercise ball to work instead of sitting on a chair.

Sensible advice on how to drink alcohol.

The book is easy and fun to read, very motivational.

The downside about The Ultimate New York Diet

The meal plan includes David Kirsch's protein shake--and the shake isn't exactly cheap.

Eating under 1,000 calories per day might not be working for everyone, as daily activity levels have to be considered.

The Ultimate New York Diet is basically just another low-carb diet.

The 8-week plan consists mainly of lean proteins and veggies. Also, certain fruits and cereal are added at a later phase of the program. Keep in mind that your weight might just drop because of decrease in muscle mass and water--not exactly a good thing.

Well, the diet worked for my friend. But she only followed the plan for three weeks and then went back to her usual eating habits. I guess if you're generally healthy and only want to lose a couple of pounds, the diet works.

However, if you're looking for a long term plan, not just a quick crash diet to fit into that dress, then I wouldn't say that The Ultimate New York Diet is for you.
