UMPC Display Emulator
Probably the only downside to the UMPC is that it's so small, sometimes the display can leave you squinting. Developers also find it challenging to set their program for UMPC viewing and use. Thankfully, developers are able to remember remedy their challenges with the UMPC Display Emulator.
The emulator confirms that your program is accessible and legible with a UMPC. When it is running on a UMPC, It also provides greater user experience. Although it is easy to use, the UMPC Display Emulator should not be mistaken for a hardware emulator or even a virtual operating system. It is merely a tool that developers use in order to check how their programs would look like when viewed and used in an ultra mobile PC setting.
What the program does is to set your computer's screen resolution to that of a UMPC (800 × 480). No, it doesn't change your monitor's current resolution setting. Essentially, a UMPC display emulator is simply a tool to show how your program will appear in a typical UMPC setting. Most programs today are designed for standard graphic user interface (GUI). Since most UMPC's use Microsoft Windows XP, you can use the emulator on your Windows desktop or laptop. What it does is simply intercept all functions of Win 32, including positioning, display, and resolution information and reset the information to a UMPC setting.
On the other hand, software developers and software QA teams can bank on the UMPC Evaluator tool to help then determine how portable their software applications are to the different UMPC models available.
Can You Create Art Works With A UMPC?
The answer to this question is a resounding yes, that is, if you use the right program. With Corel Painter Essentials 3, you can use your UMPC stylus like a paintbrush - you can create works of art with your hand or turn pictures into paintings.
There are several well-known brands of UMPC: Samsung and TabletKiosk. These brands prove that powerful computers can come in really small packages. These brands were the first to use the Microsoft/UMPC specification. Samsung already has three additions to its UMPC family, the Q1U-ELXP, the Q1U-SSDXP, and the Q1U-XP.
Probably the oldest popular model of the UMPC is the Toshiba Libretto 50, which was released in January 1997. It is the first UMPC to pack Intel Pentium inside its frame, working at 75MHz. It ran on the Microsoft Windows 95 operating system. This UMPC model suffers badly in terms of connectivity. You cannot find a single USB port and there's no built-in modem for wired Internet connection or Wi-Fi adapter for that prized wireless Internet connection.
