The Unanswered Questions of Lost: Does Anyone Even Care Anymore?

Bob McCoog
In last night's episode of Lost, the history of Jacob and the Smoke Monster man is finally revealed. Now we know that the Adam and Eve skeleton found in the cave in Season One are the bodies of Smoke Monster man and his psychopathic adopted mother. We've also now know where the mysterious wheel that Ben used to move the island came from. But, instead of wrapping everything up in a nice little package, if you are like me, the episode gave more questions to which we have no answers. Hopefully, J.J. Abrams in his infinite wisdom will answer them all in the last two episodes. However, in case they aren't, here's some of the questions that still linger.

1) Is the Temple of the Others built on top of where the cavern of light is?
Sure, now we know the purpose of Jacob remaining on the island, thanks to his delusional adoptive mother. But where did the temple come from? Did another group of people crash on the island and construct the temple at Jacob's command? Or is the temple built somewhere else?

2) Where did the gigantic Egyptian statue come from?
It obviously wasn't there at the time of Jacob and Smoke Monster man's birth. I do think, however, it was built upon the home the the boys and their mother lived in. The reason for this belief is the existence of the looms and the firepit at the end of last season when Jacob gets killed. But, just like the temple, was there some group of religious fanatics that crashed on the island that we haven't been told about yet? Or did Widmore's group get bored and, at the suggestion of Richard Alpert, build several religious monuments? It does seem the British thing to do.

3) Why Latin?
True, Latin is a royal, holy language, and Jacob could have chosen it to be spoken by his followers as a way to reinforce the importance of their mission. But, if that's the case, where did he learn how to speak it? The people who came with his birth mother were killed or left. The only survivor of the Black Rock was Alpert, who spoke Spanish. Once again, where did this other group come from that no one has told us about?

4) What was the role of Walt on the island?
He was said to have a special gift by one of the Others back in about the second or third season, when he was kidnapped. What was this gift? Why did he never use it? And why did he and Michael disappear at the start of the season, one to be seen again a couple of episodes briefly? And why weren't they shown on the Oceanic flight in the alternate timeline?

And my final question:
5) Why were the numbers on the hatch being recited in Rousseau's distress call recording?
While we finally know the numbers are based off of the degree markings on Jacob's mirror in his light house, why were they included in Rousseau's distress call? And better yet, how did the Dharma Initiative choose those numbers to put on the hatch? Did Jacob speak to one of them and tell them to put those numbers on?

These are just some of the questions that I feel still need to be answered by this show. Mr. Abrams, if you're reading this, feel free to contact me and let me know all the answers to the Lost universe, and then send the Smoke Monster to kill me. At least I can die fulfilled.
