The Undertaker Wins Royal Rumble: Dead Man Walking to Wrestlemania

Jeff D Gorman
The Undertaker has done nearly everything since he somberly walked into the WWE in 1990 - except win the Royal Rumble. He took care of that on Jan. 28 and now he will get another World title shot at Wrestlemania 23.

The Undertaker threw Shawn Michaels over the top rope to clinch the victory. He became the first wrestler to win the Rumble after entering last at No. 30. It's taken 20 years for someone to cash in on that advantage.

Now, the stage is set for a World title match at Wrestlemania against the World champion, Batista. The champ knocked off Mr. Kennedy to retain the belt at the Rumble. Undertaker and Batista will meet in a battle of the super good guys at Wrestlemania.

In fact, the babyfaces (good guys) won every match at the Rumble and hold all of the top titles. The WWE needs some dangerous heels (bad guys) to step up, because the good guys are dominating, and that can get repetitive.

John Cena hung onto the WWE title by defeating Umaga in a Last Man Standing match. Bobby Lashley knocked off Test to retain the ECW title. Even the Hardy Boyz won the opening match against MNM.

U.S. champ Chris Benoit, Intercontinental champ Jeff Hardy, Women's champion Mickie James and WWE tag team champions Paul London & Brian Kendrick are also on the side of good.

So what's at stake at Wrestlemania with all of these good guys bouncing around? Well, Undertaker has never lost at Wrestlemania. So he will either win the belt from Batista, or his 13-match streak at Wrestlemania will come to an end.

Hulk Hogan is also rumored to be returning to Detroit for Wrestlemania to mark the 20th anniversary of his landmark win over Andre the Giant. The Big Show would be the perfect opponent for the Hulkster, but he has retired due to the beatings his huge body has absorbed over the last 10 years.

So The Great Khali is another option to face Hogan in the ring, but the quality of that match would make the original Hogan-Andre match look like Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat. So the WWE is considering matching Hogan up with Shane McMahon (with Khali in Shane's corner).

What about the whole Vince McMahon vs. Donald Trump situation? They will probably manage wrestlers against each other at Wrestlemania, but I would love to see them actually do battle in the ring. The winner could "fire" the loser, and Trump could maybe run the WWE for a period of time if he wins.

As intriguing as that sounds, it looks like the billionaires will be cornermen at Wrestlemania. The rumored match is Shawn Michaels (with Trump) vs. King Booker (with Vince), but that's not a definite.

Brandi, did you even know that Kane was derived from the Undertaker? He is not his real brother but only on the screen. Before that, Kane was a jobber (loser) called Isaac Yankem DDS and he was also the fake Diesel. When he could not get enough popularity as them, he was repackaged as Kane (and his face was masked so that nobody identifies him for a few years), the half brother of the Undertaker and that fetched him popularity because being associated with Undertaker makes you famous. Taker also taught him many wrestling moves back-stage including tombstone and chokeslam, and Kane owes all his career success to Undertaker. And Undertaker is by far the better performer, be it in wrestling skill or his arsenal of moves, finishers, or character-presentation.

The undertaker drives me nuts.. I dont know why, he just does.. I think it may be the match with him and Kane that did me in. I love Kane and if you mess with him, you now become on my yecky list. lol.

For the past 5 years Undertaker had not won any title. Every time he gets an opertunaty but he cannot win because of interfearens in the match. According to me it is the high time for the Undertaker to win a champianship gold.At Wrestlemania 23 he must win against Batista and be 15-0 at Wrestlemania.

Great coverage to prepare the fans for Wrestlemania! As for my opinion - I'm all for the real live bout of Trump vs. McMahon in a no-holds-barred fight. Unfortunately, I've seen Mr. McMahon fight and he is no pansy. Trump, on the other hand, ..........

Never in the history of pro wrestling have there ever been three lamer champs than cena, batista, and lashley. then again, not like tna's much better lately. I'd kill to see ROH on a weekly basis. sigh
