The United States Aren't Anymore

I watched a video of MSNBC's Rachel Maddow on The David Letterman Show and my only conclusion is the United States is a lovely moniker, but seemingly one no longer true. In the interview Maddow and Letterman trade their clever quips about what a sham Fox News is; Fox makes up news; MSNBC has a better track record of accuracy on news reporting, etc. Perhaps we should henceforth be called "The States of America."

Add in the story that concludes Fox viewers "are the "most misinformed" when it comes to knowledge of American politics," and I think my point is apparent. Our unity is becoming more scarce by the moment. We've succeeded in reaching the point where now depending on where one gets most of their news, they are correctly and accurately informed, or not. The divide grows by the day, even after a very recent election that spoke in a somewhat uniform voice.

I am of the mind this is an intentional effort. I know that may seem one-sided and a partisan appraisal, but let's review some common facts:

Who is it who basically believes the US is an exceptionally flawed place? Who is it who favors some form of almost total "redo" for this nation to absolve us of our imperfections?Who is it who first took to the concept that the US is an imperial nation, raping and robbing the Third World of its resources for our enrichment? Who favors redistribution of wealth to level the playing field for the US's alleged past indiscretions?

Who is it who thinks the US Constitution is no longer all that relevant, and certainly not so in the modern world? Who is it who adheres to the Keynesian model of economics that have never worked in their history? And this despite the relative success of capitalism and free markets as our history has clearly shown? How can this be? Aren't facts always "facts" regardless of one's political leaning? They are in my world, but clearly not so much in the worlds of many others.

Yes, for that I will jump on the "division" bandwagon and take them to task.

Is the MSNBC viewer better informed, factually I mean? I don't know. Let's be honest here...news is so plentiful that there is no way one can be informed of every event. The world is dynamic as Hell and it's hard for any individual to know the details, the accurate ones I mean, of all that occurs on a daily basis, so in factual fairness we are all uninformed to some degree.

The foregoing being the facts, where does that leave our union? On the road to oblivion seems the likely destination. I know that may seem harsh, but what more can I conclude? The US had many things going for it over and above all other nations - we were the example of unity to the world despite our ethnic, racial and social differences, but not any longer. Now we are a series of factions, each searching for other like-minded souls to bed down with.

We have left the unity somewhere in our history. Of course there were always Democrats and Republicans, but that was more a matter of degree and not total ideology or overarching belief that one group of American's were the real and true representatives of the nation. We've left that enviable position somewhere behind us and I am not sure we can recover it - at least without some ugly goings on in the meantime.

I am of the mind this is an intentional effort by the left. Their rhetoric, both public and private in terms of their primers for attaining the political ends they seek, is clear that one of the tools for them winning the ideological struggle is to divide us amongst ourselves. Read Alinsky. Look at the goals of the Marxist ideology to neuter the US. Is it not blatantly apparent Marxist efforts at taking down the US are to first divide us into factions? And not Republicans or Democrats, but self-styled real and true Americans versus the greedy interlopers. See my point?

Look at who the left is largely populated by. They are an amalgam of those who believe themselves the "disaffected" among us. The left is not a unified movement but instead is a never ending series of special interest groups, each with their own agenda and hoped for outcome. The only common ground they have is that they all believe themselves aggrieved in some way, and thus all agree at some level that fundamental change of his nation's underpinning is necessary to properly address their issues.

Can such a position be unifying? Can reader's see how this condition is one of the stimuli that will erode and chip away at our foundations, thus perhaps leading to collapse? If one cannot see that they are not looking hard enough. Not to be a doom and gloom type, but just how many cornerstones can a building's foundation have removed before the integrity of the structure begins to be apparent?
