The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission to Launch New Site in 2011

The CPSC Site Will Allow Consumers to Register Concerns and Complaints

Pat Anthony
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission will establish a database for consumer use. Anyone will be able to search this database for information about recalled products and more.

Also referred to as the CPSC, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission will have the database available beginning March of 2011. The database will include reports and comments by labelers and manufacturers.

The intention of the CPSC database is to make information readily available to consumers before they make a decision to purchase an item. Consumers searching the database will learn about any potential hazards that have been reported.

This database was actually required by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 and will be available as SaferProducts.gov. Consumers will be able to register concerns and file complaints about recalled items, as well as products the purchaser may feel pose a hazard.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is actively involved in investigating consumer concerns and complaints. When such investigations provide sufficient evidence that a safety hazard exists, products are removed from the market and the general public is notified.

The CPSC has the responsibility of investigating, reporting and recalling products that may cause injury or death. Anyone with a complaint about the safety of a product can reach the CPSC at 800-638-2772. To view the Consumer Protection Safety Commission site visit www.cpsc.gov.
