There are many scientists that support an idea that there are "strings" in space and that this "String Theory" explains how the present universe is expanding at an increasing rate of acceleration. There has also been a relatively recent discovery of "entangled" photons where two photons with a great amount of space between them seem to react instantly to each other. This discovery of "entangled" photons has prompted speculation of a possibility of communication across the universe in real time or even the possibility of transmission of matter over the vastness of space. The discovery of such entangled photons however, does lead toward another interesting speculation.
If you take a regular paper straw, cover the end with your thumb, and then extremely quickly drive the straw into an apple it is possible to drive the straw completely through the apple. I have done this in the science lab, to show how the air in the straw when moved at a high rate of speed can become as solid as steel, thus making it possible to drive the straw through the apple.
NOTE: You should not do these kinds of experiments on your own. I take extra care by placing tape over the end of the straw, by wearing gloves, by not doing this experiment with students near the experiment, by not using glass containers etc. and it might be considered inappropriate to demonstrate how a simple straw could become a deadly weapon. *I have wondered why straws have not been banned from airplanes however."
Now imagine that the entire universe was just about to form with everything in one central place and with a universal gravitational field. Every particle, in the entire universe, being connected to every other particle in the universe by gravitational forces. Suddenly there is the "Big Bang" and everything moves outward (including gravity) at a speed either near or possibly exceeding the speed of light (a hypothesis by some scientists) creating "gravity straws". The gravity that was once directed inward toward the center of what was to become the big bang was suddenly directed outward and also was suddenly going in the other direction. This may have in effect created "gravity straws" somewhat like the soda straw in my experiment, but without the actual physical straw. This "gravity straw" was in effect constructed entirely of gravity, would act like a super strong solid rod that was hollow, but also would have extreme length and flexibility from side to side.
Remember that every particle in the universe would have created these "gravity straws" and would have in effect created a "Fabric in Space", but this fabric in space would be vastly different than what we know to be fabric. It would have no substance, but would be as real as if it had substance. It would be invisible, but have visible effects. Each "gravity straw" would be at least as long as it's original point of origin at the moment of the big bang to a point at which it ceased to act like the straw in my experiment going through the apple. It might be possible that gravity itself was projected out beyond the expanding matter and now be causing the expansion rate to be increasing.
Thinking of this in terms of gravity straws could explain the "entangled" photon experiment where one of the photons at one end is twisted and causes an immediate twist of the entangled photon that has been sent across space, which actually may be traveling inside one of these gravity straws. If such a gravity straw has an event like a twist at one end, then the effect of that twist may be immediate at whatever point the entangled photon has reached at that point in time. In effect inside this gravity straw, time is not a factor, the gravity straw being so solid as to entirely twist throughout it's entire length when twisted at the point of the initial twist. It is important to note that not only could it be twisted at the second photon location, but that may be the "visible" effect, but that in reality it is twisted along the entire length of the gravity straw, including the location that the photon would be in the future or in effect at the other end of the gravity straw.
These "gravity straws" might bend when passing matter and may even pass through existing matter, As they pass through matter, they may again create the effect of gravity toward the center of that particular matter. As matter moves through space it may be in effect be collecting segments of these "gravity straws" and increasing gravity. In effect the gravity on the Earth for example may be created by an accumulation of "gravity straws" passing through the Earth. These gravity straws would also have a kind of directional alignment. They might basically align in a direction from inside the matter mass outward toward the end of the universe explaining the spherical nature of this "gravitational fabric of space".
Light might travel through space along or inside these gravitational straws. This might explain the motion of light waves and other energy waves through space. Again it is important to remember that these gravity straws do not physically exist, but only exist in "effect". Such gravitation straws may also have a kind of structure where light traveling along or inside them may kind of "leak" and this leakage could cause the dispersion of light, especially depending upon the frequency of such light or energy.
Coherent light (Laser Light) might be able to travel along or inside such gravity straws with less leakage. This could help explain how coherent light can travel much greater distances with less dispersion. It is difficult to imagine that there may be something like "gravity straws" that can't be seen or measured, but which can cause effects even after billions of years.
It is also important to consider the "big bang" itself. Some explosions do not actually blow up from the inside out. In fact to detonate a nuclear weapon there is an explosion from the outside inward at first to create extreme compression which then can cause the nuclear explosion. It is possible that the "big bang" did not actually start at the center, it could have started quite a distance from the center and actually may have been a series of explosions that eventually became the "big bang". If such a rapid series of "mini-big bang" explosions happened it could account for the mixing of the matter that we see in our visible universe.
