Although some people may have found some of the information presented in this course as useless, I can honestly say that is not the case for me (no joke). Courses are not designed to teach impractical material. For every class I went to, I listened attentively and absorbed as much information as possible. I can never know everything about the University of Miami and what it has to offer, but with every ounce of knowledge I gain, I feel as though I am more prepared for what may lie ahead. In addition to this, I would not alter the teaching of this course whatsoever. I learned plenty of information but at the same time was not bombarded with it. I believe this is a very important aspect of any course, especially an introductory course such as UMX. The teaching had a good blend of education, recreation, and enthusiasm. This makes for an ideal, enjoyable learning environment.
Since the first day of this course, I believe I have changed for the better. One thing that I learned during my time as a UMX student is that socializing and networking is an important factor in my college career. As a consequence of this, I have become more outgoing with the hope to strike up new friendships, some of which may hopefully be mutually beneficial. I have also become a smarter student outside of the classroom, knowing where help is if I need it and how I can get it. This, coupled with some extraordinary professors and friends, has made for an extremely satisfying college experience. Although things may sometimes appear bleak, I now know that I have the abilities and the surrounding cast to resolve any problem that I may face. Furthermore, I believe I have found a good balance between work and recreation, pushing my time management and satisfaction above the threshold. During the spring semester, I will continue to work on this as I slowly build the rest of my college legacy. Thanks to this UMX course, I now have a good foundation for the next four years, and I am more than ready to set my roots down and truly thrive.
