The Unspoken Rules of Being an Adult Exotic Dancer

Starting a new job can make a person feel a little nervous or unsure, just like I did when I began a new career as an adult dancer. I wish I had someone to tell me what to expect before going into this brand new situation. I worked in the adult night club industry for about two years and if I knew then what I know now, things would have been a whole lot easier for me. An adult exotic dancer is not a stripper, and a stripper is not an exotic dancer.

1. One of the most important rules of being an adult exotic dancer: do not under any circumstance say the real name of any other dancer inside of the club. This is an invasion of privacy and can cause potentially dangerous situations. Be careful who you tell your real name to as well. There is a lot of competition in thie adult business and some of the other dancers will use anything against you that they can. Leave the details of your personal life at home; when you are at work you should refrain from talking to customers about your real life outside of the club. This is especially dangerous in this type of atmosphere because lots of the dancers have stalkers or over enthusiastic customers that would love to have this kind of information. Avoid carrying your driver's license into the club, it is better to leave it in the car. When you start work as an exotic dancer, you will be issued a dancer identification card that must be carried with you at all times.Choosing a good dancer name is important, but having an interesting and believable story of your life is even better. Give your customers the experience they come to the adult night club for. Be a fantasy in the flesh.

2. Another good tip is this: if you want to dance to a certain song you should first try to find out is if any other dancer uses it on a regular basis. If a girl always dancers to a certain song then you should avoid picking the same song unless you talk to the other dancer about it first. Unless you do this, it is considered a challenge and can turn into a huge cat fight. Make sure that you discuss this topic with the DJ working that night. They will be the best one to ask which dancer dances to what song and if a certain song you like is "free" to use. Some DJs in the adult night club business even have folders on their computer for each dancer. When in doubt, it never hurts to ask.

3. Money is always a major issue being a dancer in the adult night club industry. Never under any circumstance should you touch money that belongs to another girl. If two dancers share the stage then each girl is responsible for picking up their own money. If one dancer forgets to grab all of her cash from the stage and another dancer is already starting her set then the money left on stage goes to the girl who is now dancing. Some girls do tip each other and are also prompted to tip each other by some of the customers. If two dancers are on stage together then all cash that is thrown onto the stage is to be split evenly between the two girls. If a customer walks up and hands cash directly to one girl then it is hers and does not have to be shared. This is a general rule of thumb, but especially in the world of the exotic dancer.: don't touch makeup or other personal belongings if you haven not been given permission.

4. Bringing your spouse or loved one into your work is usually not a good idea. In most adult dance clubs the boyfriend of any dancer is not allowed to come inside of the bar while their girlfriend is working. Some girls think it's fun to cause problems with other dancers and will try to flirt with the other dancers' boyfriends, but most of the time the other dancers will not let this happen. As a majority the girls in any better class adult night club will stick together to keep the peace and keep a stress free work environment. Troublemakers are singled out and are pretty much forced to fend for themselves. Customers often include bikers, businessmen with extra time on their hands, couples, unhappy husbands, and single guys. Very few adult exotic dance clubs will not allow women to enter their establishment if they are not escorted by a man. Many times angry wives or girlfriends find out about their man's activities and come up to the club to confront him or a dancer that has previously danced for their man.

5. Don't "step on toes". This could mean anything from waiting for a dancer who is with a paying customer to go on stage and then going over to that customer with the purpose of asking them for a dance or money. Or it could mean walking up and getting in the middle of a conversation between a customer and another girl. Some girls are rude and selfish to begin with but when you add alcohol things can go from bad to worse. Another way to avoid stepping on another dancer's toes is to try to take away another girl's customer by offering to dance for him for a cheaper price than the other girl. This is basically cutting someone's throat. Most dancers get angry because not only does it lose money for them, but it could also cost them a regular customer. A "regular" is a customer who comes into the bar on a regular basis and spends money on one or more of the girls. Usually a regular chooses one girl to spend his money on and will not even tip the other girls unless prompted by the the dancer he came to see. It is good policy to share the wealth if a regular shows up when it is a slow night and no one is making money.
