The Valkyrie

A Poem of Regret for a Lost Love - Nothing More

Brendan W Vittum
Some poetry makes sense only to the poet, other poems are intentionally left with a mystery for the reader to interpret - others are self-explanatory. This piece is simply a regret for a lost love - nothing more.

The Valkyrie

Some men
would tear the stars
of Orion from the sky;
melt them in passion's
heat weaving a
necklace of the
purest silver and
liquid fire in the world -
then hanging the moon upon it,
create the rarest jewelry
in the world for you.

Others,
would worship with
their hands,
fingers,
tongue,
lips,
all the body
parts you desired.

When that
wasn't possible any longer
It would be with
eyes and ears.

Still more
seek to make you
feel as the only
woman in the world.

Far as I am concerned.
I never meant any
of this to happen,
despite great
effort to the contrary,

It did.

Roses each week.
Massaging the day's tension
from limbs each night.
Reading until voice was
gone.

Whispering inanities while you
fell asleep
I held you each night.

I would make a living
out of bringing you
pleasure
had you permitted.
