The New Vampire Costume

Nontraditional Vampire Costumes

Chad R. Herman
You've decided you're going to be a vampire this year. The vampire costume never goes out of style....or so you thought. These new Vampires add less to the costumes and more to the actions and usage of the fangs. These Vampire costumes ask the wearer to be a vampire, rather than the clothes depict you as such. The new books such as Anne Rice, Stephanie Myers, and a host of other writers have reinvented and re-scripted what a Vampire looks like, does and does not do, and even what they are able and not able to do. These new novels have changed the Vampire scene completely. So if you decide to arrive wearing the same old warn out Vampire get up, you'll be laughed right out of the holiday.

Count Dracula is no longer the great Count he once was. The new vampire costumes come in many different forms.
The ultra modern vampire costumes takes the look of Edward and his crew from the Twilight series of movies and books by Stephanie Myers. They're brooding, young looking, and can easily conceal their slightly elongated eye teeth. This group of Vampires can walk around in the sun light, and don't even have that Pasty white look that their predecessors have. These are vampires that look like humans for the mere purpose of eating them. These new costumes are equipped with regular dress and eye teeth extension caps. Now all you need to do is start hissing and opening your mouth a lot. You are a vampire, though you still look like a normal person. Act the part!

The Anne Rice Vampires dress in a more period style. They follow the rule that all Vampires should be elegant, beautiful, and the desire to keep their race going. They must be sleek and conceal their waxy marble appearance. They usually have long gorgeous hair, and a top hat is pretty normal. They are sophisticated, immortal, and love the taste of blood. Unfortunately, they often get so connected to their old period of dress, they keep wearing it. They are usually dressed all in black and have a deep white, almost marble, look to them. This is the look that many of the Emo kids take on. The black hair, black dress, and even the black polish and make-up. This set would have to include the teeth extensions, but if you have a tux - that would look the best with this Vampire.

Lastly we have the Buffy the Vampire beasts. All of the Buffy vampires were evil and most of them were on the slaying list. Being that Buffy was a teenager, all the other Vampires were teenagers. A lot of their looks were taken and changed from the cult classic Vampire movie The Lost Boys. These vampire costumes come equipped with the concealable fang caps, but they also must have the latest fashion and a wee bit of makeup. For when these gents morphed into blood thirsty killers, their forehead and the skin above their nose morphed into a wrinkled furrowed brow. These vampires were true killers, but only when they decided to morph. They also have yellow cat like eyes.

These costumes can take on many different looks and personas. The most important thing is to play the part better than you look the part. You can always spy a bad character, but it's harder to find something missing from the wardrobe.
