Recap
The Vampire Diaries Season 1 finale, Founder's Day, left us with a ton of aftermath and new questions for Mystic Falls.
John Gilbert (David Anders) and Mayor Richard Lockwood (Robert Pralgo) unleashed the vampire-debilitating signal of a device, created by Emily (Bianca Lawson), an 18th-century witch, during Founder's Day, in an effort to combat the vengeful vampires ready to kill the town founders descended as retribution for what was done to them centuries ago. Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre) doesn't want them using the device but John incapacitates her so their plan proceeds.
Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Alaric (Matthew Davis) try to stop John Gilbert.
Unbeknownst to Damon and Stefan (Paul Wesley), Bonnie (Katerina Graham) didn't unarm the device. After the vampires have been incapacitated by the device, they are injected with vervain and tossed into a building to burn to death.
Elena (Nina Dobrev) learns that John Gilbert is her father.
Anna (Malese Jow) is killed by John.
Mayor Lockwood warns his son, Tyler (Michael Trevino), as well as Matt (Zach Roerig) and Caroline (Candice Accola), to flee town in his car. The device affects Tyler, causing him to get into a car accident, injuring Caroline but he and Matt are almost unharmed.
The device also stuns Mayor Lockwood and he is taken into the building to burn with the other vampires. He learned that Damon is a vampire before another vampire breaks his neck.
Bonnie uses magic to lower the flames which allows Stefan to save Damon. She later tells Stefan that she only helped him rescue Damon because Elena is her friend and she knows that Elena loves him and Damon is his brother -- she has no qualms of killing Damon as he returns to his evil ways.
Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) learns that Anna is dead and the loss of Vicki (Kayla Ewell) and his "betrayal" by Elena puts him over the edge and he finally decides to become a vampire. He is last seen drinking a vile of Anna's blood and taking a bottle of pills.
Katherine (Nina Dobrev) pretends to be Elena and kisses Damon then enters Elena's to attack John in the kitchen.
Unanswered Questions
The Season 1 finale left us with many new questions including:
If Tyler and his father are/were not vampires but affected by the device known to affect vampires, what does that make them? Werewolves?!
What will Damon think when he finds out that Katherine and not Elena kissed him?
What does Jenna Sommers (Sara Canning) think of seeing who she believes to be Elena kissing Damon (but we know was really Katherine) when she knows Stefan is her boyfriend?
Is Alaric completely over his revenge against Damon for converting Isobel (Mia Kirshner)?
What will Elena do now that she knows John Gilbert is her father?
Who will the new Mayor be now that Richard Lockwood is dead?
Where is the vampire-debilitating device currently located? Can it be used again?
How strong are Bonnie's witch powers?
Is Jeremy going to turn into a vampire or will he be saved first?
Is John Gilbert dead?
What is Katherine's plan?
