The kind of coffee usually depends on the flavor or how deep the roast is. It may also depend on whether you prefer decaf or caffeinated coffee.
In the United States the most popular brands of coffee that are purchased are Starbucks, Maxwell House and Folgers. Starbucks may seem to have the monopoly since they have store locations as well as their coffee sold in the grocery store too. However, each of these three are consumed the most and their sales numbers run about the same with each other.
If you are looking for the best coffee to purchase in the store, you may want to rethink your decision on grabbing the cheapest brand of coffee on the shelf. Instead you should look more for the brands that are in the middle of the road in price. One brand that has been around for ages is Eight O' Clock coffee. Their coffee sells for about six dollars per pound on average. Eight O' Cock has been around so long because the flavor is very smooth throughout their blends.
This brand also is in the middle of the road when it comes to caffeine too. Another really good choice is Dunkin' Donuts coffee. Their coffee will sell for around seven dollars per pound. However, large food warehouses such as Sams' Club or BJ's sell much larger packages of Dunkin' Donuts that are a really good deal! Dunkin' Donuts' Original Blend is among the best! It has just the right blend smooth as will as kick in it. If you happen to like flavored coffees, you should check out the flavor options that are put out by Dunkin' Donuts as well.
Folgers' coffee is excellent too. Their coffee comes in larger tubs than many other types of coffee. The price range is anywhere from six to ten dollars. Folgers' has many classic blends that have always been around, however, they have recently put out some interesting ones that are worth trying.
One of these is called the Brazilian Blend. It is a cross between a more robust roast such as French and a more mild one such as Columbian.
What if you prefer decaf coffee? If you like your cup of Joe with low octane, then the best choice would be Dunkin' Donuts decaf or Folgers. These two brands have the least amount of caffeine and are also very reasonably priced. Also, with these two brands of decaf coffee, you will not feel as if you are missing something in flavor. When it comes to choosing coffee, go for the middle priced one that has the flavor you like!
