The ideal shoes are for comfort. Tennis shoes or other types of sneakers are a good choice. The shoes should be large enough to allow for some swelling, just in case this happens from being on her feet for a longer period of time than usual. Most women who are pregnant experience a temporary size increase by a little bit, (one half to one full size is normal) due to the pregnancy. When a woman is pregnant she should not just buy her normal size without trying them on, for two reasons. First is because the shoes may run small or narrow. Second is because her feet may have gotten larger or be swollen. The sneakers are also flat soled. This is important because the center of gravity changes when a woman becomes pregnant. A woman who is used to wearing heels may find herself teetering very unbalanced when she is pregnant because of where the majority of weight is carried is different when pregnant. Most sneakers are also fairly wide, this is a good choice because when pregnant a woman's feet may spread slightly, or swell when on her feet.
Other examples of shoes that can be comfortably worn while pregnant include slight wedges, such as some sandals or some dress shoes. Be sure that the shoes are wide enough to allow for the foot to swell or spread slightly. Some other dress shoes such as flat pumps or a dress shoe with a slight heel. Very high heels should be avoided due to the change in balance. Falling while pregnant can be very dangerous and could result in loss of the baby and/or severe injury to the mother.
Wearing the correct shoes while pregnant is important because uncomfortable shoes may also cause blisters which can become infected or the woman could fall or even just be very uncomfortable. A pregnant woman should be sure to try on the shoes she already owns before wearing them to be sure that they fit correctly when she is pregnant. A pair of shoes that may be her favorite when she is not pregnant, may become her worst, most hate pair when she is pregnant.
Flip flops are not a good option for pregnant women, because they offer no support and when a woman is pregnant, her feet may become sore from not having the needed support in the arch of her foot that pregnant woman need even more because of the added weight and the change in where the woman carries her weight when pregnant. Sandles that have an arch in them are good, but must be sure that they offer the support needed to keep the feet from getting sore.
Other flats such as ballet style shoes are good because they are comfortable and flat, and usually are stretchy on the upper of the shoe. These also allow for swelling. These shoes are also usually good because they offer arch support. In addition they are comfortable. Wearing uncomfortable shoes is not fun and can make for a very bad day.
These are just a few examples of shoes that may make good choices for shoes when a woman is pregnant. There are many many more options of shoes for women who are pregnant. Using good judgement in shoes while pregnant will help to keep the woman comfortable and safe.
