The View Discuss Adam Lambert AMA Video Controversy

The Women of the View Voice Opinions on Controversy Over Adam Lambert's AMA Video Controversy

Mary Zeiher
The View has now stepped into the Adam Lambert video controversy and the women of The View are doing a moment by moment commentary on Adam Lambert's AMA performance that has caused such a controversy over the last week.

Whoopi Goldberg began the clip with this: "We wanted to show you why Adam Lambert's performance shocked so many people. But we actually can't show you ... because we were told it was inappropriate for daytime TV." Whoopis added an eye roll that spoke volumes about how absurd she found this point of view on the Adam Lambert video controversy.

Then it was Elisabeth Hasselbeck's turn to chime in with: "It was inappropriate for night time TV if you asked most people watching." Elisabeth Hasselbeck then continued with: "I'm ok with not showing it because I found it really over the line."

Barbara Walters called it 'absurd' that CBS would not show it.

Whoopi Goldberg then brought up the hypocrisy in that when it is a female performer, such as the famous Madonna and Britney kiss from the 2003 Video Awards show that it is ok now to show that. Joy Behar attempt at humor said that, "Everyone loves a lesbian kiss."

Barbara Walters then read a statement from Adam Lambert that said, "I think there is a double standard that is going on in the entertainment community. Female performers have been doing this for years pushing the envelope about sexuality. If ABC cuts any part of the performance then it amounts to discrimination. They didn't censor Britney and Madonna, but two men kissing and they will censor it." Barbara Walters added that the statement is true.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck added, "There was an aggression that came across and it was subjective, a sexual aggression that came across. So does anyone remember what song he sang or what it sounded like? This is a mistake that Adam Lambert will make time and time again. No one will remember him as performer or someone with a voice. He needs to smarten up and sing."

The women of The View seemed to have differing opinions about their own network's decisions and the decisions of other networks when it comes to the Adam Lambert video controversy.

The Adam Lambert video controversy has been a top searched phrase on the internet over the Thanksgiving holiday and it is still making news, now on The View. Adam Lambert shocked and surprised some viewers of the AMAs with his sexual and somewhat-racy performance at the AMAs. He led dancers across the AMA stage on leashes, rubbed one dancers head in his crotch in a simulation of oral sex and he open mouth kissed a band member.

This Adam Lambert video controversy has caused ABC to cancel his appearance on Good Morning America. But CBS was quick up Adam Lambert, almost immediately. It seems the Adam Lambert debate continues.

Elizabeth should stick to talking about her favorite topic--the Republicans, especially her love-fest for George Bush!

If Elizabeth thinks that all mom's in America like her she is crazy. She is so aggravatingly narrow-minded.

Walters has to try and shut-her-up so many times because she will gag the viewers with her ridiculous conservative George Bush-type rules that it is embarrassing. Why is she still on the View? More ABC mistakes.

Chris Brown is a woman beater. I'd take the gay guy over Chris Brown any day. Adam Lambert is not only talented but very sweet. Who cares who he kisses?

This whole thing is so overblown.

And, oh, yeah, anyone "kissing" during a musical performance is inappropriate, be it a man or woman, two women or two men. I don't turn on a musical program to see sex.

  • Patricia Sheasley Sicilia11/27/2009

I think the two men kissing was the least of it! Simulating oral sex is not appropriate for men or women to do on network TV. This was not a concert. And his remark tht "he's not a babysitter" is such a cop out. What parent could have imagined that he'd push a guy's face in his crotch! Get real people.

Elisabeth sees hereself as the world's moral compass, while the world sees her as grating and self-important. Hopefully, Adam has learned a lesson about depleting his enormous fan base since he admits to getting carried away with his AMA performance. With such outstanding vocals, not to mention killer looks, he's shock and awe personified just standing still in front of a microphone. I wish him a great career while I wish Elisabeth would just go away - far away.

Elisabeth is so judgemental. I wish she would get knocked up again and go on maternity leave. I enjoy watching The View so much more when she is absent. I get very tired of her Republican, holier than thou views on everything. Rock on Adam, your album sales speak volumes on your road to success. And yes, I was thoroughly entertained by Adam on the AMA's and yes I remember the song also. It was GMA's loss to cancel Adam and CBS' gain to latch onto him. Get used to Adam, Homophobic America!!!

such hypocrisy...i remember very well the song. it's called "for your entertainment":)
btw, close-minded people had the same reaction in the 50s with elvis, in the 60s with the flower-power generation, in the 80s with madonna... adam lambert is gonna be iconic.

  • Kidaly11/27/2009

I agree with Elisabeth. No one will ever remember the song Adam sang and much less take him seriously as a "performer". His actions spoke louder than words and it was disgusting to watch as well as listen. I'm glad ABC cancelled his interview with "Good Morning America"!

Elizbeth needs to get into the year 2009- if she is so offended as what she percieves as aggressive, why did she nothing about Eminems song about a guy bragging about rapes, so it's ok to rape a woman, but a guy man kissing is bad, Elizabeth is hypocrisy itself, why do they even keep her on the View, she is annoying self serving arrogant and very narrow minded. Rock On Adam, we love you

  • irisita6911/27/2009

Women are discussing this while men are taking the desicions...
No wonder gay male sex is tabu while female gay sex is hot!
I came to the conclusion that homophobia is mainly a male desease. Homophobic men are, in my opinion, no more that litle frightened in the closet homosexuals.

  • Mum of 4 Girls11/27/2009

Elisabeth is so narrow minded on any topic that jumps over her white picked fence. People like her scare me more than anything else ever could on TV...IT WAS ONE SONG...GET OVER IT. Also in agreeance with the double standard. There is much worse on daytime tv...and how many of those oh so angelic children that were allowed to stay up and watch AMA's also watch Family Guy, South Park..etc. HHMMM??
