The View Not Worth Viewing

Grown Women Acting like Children

I stopped watching The View during the last Presidential election. The co-hosts on The View were just killing me by being so obviously biased toward one person and so disrespectful to that persons opponents. I couldn't take them raising my blood pressure anymore, so I turned them off. It stayed that way for months, but in the last few weeks I decided to give them another chance. I needed to know that I could stomach them again, now that the election is far over. What I have learned is that I can't stand the show. At times, every single one of the ladies (I use that term loosely), has made me want to pull my hair right out of my head.

When Whoopi Goldberg became the moderator for The View, I thought I would really enjoy her. She has always made me laugh on stage and in films, but I'm not laughing anymore. I'm not sure how old she is, older than me I'm certain, but she often acts like a spoiled, bratty child. Whoopi rolls her eyes, slumps in her chair, pouts and scowls. At times she has put her finger to her head or mouth and pulled the imaginary trigger. This usually occurs while a guest is trying to make their view known. She is rude and vulgar, even when she isn't verbally expressing herself. She can be downright obnoxious when she actually speaks. Goldberg is pretty open about smoking marijuana and sometimes I think she must be high when she gets to the set of The View. Her behavior is ridiculous and unprofessional and very unappealing.

Then we have Joy Behar who has been on The View since it began nearly 12 years ago. At times I agree with her views, plenty of times I don't. Some times she actually makes a funny joke, but often she is caught up in belittling a guests whose views she does not share. Behar believes that if you talk louder than everyone, that makes you right. She is also an eye rolling, heavy sighing, I don't want to hear what my guest has to say, co-host. It's bad enough to yell over your 30 other co-hosts (Ok it's 4 others, they are so loud and screechy it sounds like 30), but must you invite guests on and then talk over them?

Sherri Shepherd is the newest co-host on The View and she seems to at least make attempts at courtesy to the guests on the show. She does make me laugh, it's just that I'm laughing at her and not with her. Shepherd is not what you would call a brainiac: Example, she was not convinced the Earth is round, thinking it might be flat and not knowing it was scientifically proven to be round. Don't bring up history with her, please. Before Christ, After Death, it's all the same to Sherri. She gets points for one thing, her name is spelled the same as mine.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck is the pretty, young co-host of The View who gets dismissed by the others. She is pregnant again, I'm not sure anymore what she looks like not pregnant. She is the resident Republican at the table and she does her best to have her voice heard. She tends to melt into the background when all the screaming over each other starts, but occasionally she speaks up while trying to talk over her co-hosts. Sometimes Hasselbeck makes sense, other times it's like she is from another planet. I don't think she is rude to most guests, but she will leave them hanging when they are looking for someone to be on their side. You can tell by her expressions when she sides with the guest, but is to afraid to speak up. The other women at the table intimidate Hasselbeck, especially Whoopi and Barbara Walters. She tries to stand up for herself, but sometimes winds up in tears. I don't like wilting flowers, it's annoying.

I save the best for last, or the worst for last, Barbara Walters. I use to really respect this woman as a pioneer for women journalist. However, on The View, she loses all credibility. She is annoying, and whiney and her arrogance is unbecoming. Walters even irritates my mother, and it takes a lot to accomplish that. She comes across as incredibly condescending. She pulled that with Elizabeth Edwards in her recent visit to The View. Mrs. Edwards has a husband who cheated on her and has terminal cancer for goodness sake! I think Barbara is losing her faculties and should leave the show, right now. She loves to talk over her co-hosts, and the guests. It has gotten to the point that the sound of her voice makes me leave screaming from the room. I don't know why she invites guests onto The View, knowing she and the others do not share their views. It would make sense to do that if they could remain professional and actually let their guests be heard. Usually they are just shouted down. They should rename the show, "Our Views and Not Yours!" I actually find myself screaming at the TV, "Shut up so I can hear what he(or she) is saying. Shut up, shut up! For the love of all that is good in the world, please shut up!" That can't be good for my blood pressure. So for my sanity and my overall health, I'm banning The View from my TV from this day forth. I just can't take it anymore, and I'm afraid I'm going to throw my remote control through my big screen television. No need to take that chance. The View is not worth viewing.

I don't watch drama tv and that's what the view is. Great job calling it like it is, Sherri!

I often feel I need some alka-seltzer after watching the show. It is toxic to the system to hear constant bickering. No one respects the other persons view. It is horrible television, but somehow people are attracted to this bizarre and verbally violent programming.

LOL, I so agree with you. ;-) I have only watched that show twice, and honestly that was twice to much for me. ;-) Good article. =)

Sherri, Though I've never been a big fan of the show, I've seen it enough times to know exactly what you're talking about. This was a great read, and dead on!

...really enjoyed reading this and agree with so much of it! I haven't seen it in quite a while but used to sometimes watch the first 15 minutes of topics. I think Behar will move over to CNN if not as Larry King's replacement as his permanent fill-in. That newest person - Sherri (sp?) came from nowhere and seems to be going nowhere - not fast anyway (sorry Sherri) - Barbara - well, sometimes people need to be told when to retire - the longer she is on the air, the less important her earlier journalistic successes become - Mrs. Hasselbeck - please go home and raise all those children yourself, the perfect mommy/wife role model she pretends to be loses credibility when she's out running around all over, playing cozy w/the Fox crowd, writing books, designing clothes and who knows what else - Whoopi - well, Whoopi's just Whoopi and that's all I have to say about that!

I couldn't agree more! This show is just....annoying. The women behave in a way that gives us all a bad name.
