The View TV Show and Whoopi Goldberg: An Observation

Is Whoopi Goldberg Taking Over the View?

Deborah Oakes, NPS
The View TV Show has caught my attention recently and especially Whoopi Goldberg. She doesn't care what anyone thinks about her. In the past, this always made me feel favorable toward her. However, recently, some characteristics are coming out about Whoopi that are less than flattering.

The View TV Show or Whoopi's Show?

On the View TV show, whenever Barbara Walters is absent, Whoopi takes over. It is basically her show and she runs it the way she wants. Unfortunately for Whoopi, she recently forgot it is Barbara Walter's show.

Whoopi was making a point about something and Barbara tried to add a comment as they always do on The View. Whoopi wasn't having it and told Barbara to let her finish. She wasn't nice about it either.

It seemed Whoopi realized who she was talking to right in the middle of her tirade, but it was too late so she continued. The rest of the episode was kind of quiet after that.

I watched Whoopi and she looked down a lot during this episode and even made the statement later in the show that even she could get fired. I'm pretty sure it was on everybody's mind.

The following day on The View was quiet with the view hosts being very polite to one another. It looked as though Whoopi and Barbara were uncomfortable too. The impasse continued for a couple of days on The View.

Whoopi Takes Over When Barbara is Gone

Then a few days later, Barbara was absent from The View again and Whoopi once again took over. She took over to the point that a Saturday Night Live episode made fun of her on their next show.

What set Saturday Night Live off is Whoopi was adamant that The View TV Show hostesses were correct about what they said about Roman Polanski. He was recently picked up after a decade of evading American authorities on charges.

Whoopi ragged and ragged about it to the point of looking like she supported Roman Polanski. I don't think that was her point, but SNL saw it that way.

Who is Whoopi Goldberg?

Anyway, one wonders if we are seeing Whoopi Goldberg the New Yorker, Whoopi Goldberg an angry black woman or just Whoopi Goldberg a very aggressive woman. Whatever it is, Whoopi might step it down a bit. When you attack your boss and your boss is Barbara Walters, you are asking for trouble.

The View TV Show is known for controversy and disagreement on subjects for ratings. But to disrespect your boss, as Whoopi did recently, might result in a career change for the comedian. Only time will tell.

I fully expected Whoopi to apologize on-air the next day on The View but that didn't happen. It will be interesting to see if within six months if Whoopi Goldberg is still a member of The View TV Show.

I watch every day, sometimes change channels because of the subject. Whoopi great, Joy Behar consistent, Elizabeth is so politcal but should be given the time to finish her point, Sherry unfortunately has become most annoying, takes to long to make her opinion known and interupts everybody, time for a change there I think.

Ladies of the view, I love all of you but Whoopee is my favorite, sorry. I watch you every day and many times have wished I had a cup like yours to drink my coffee in while watching you, but cam up with a better idea, Our Relay For Life is coming up in June, here in this small town of Nicholasville, Ky, and we have a silent auction to raise extra money for Cancer, and I would love to be able to have some of your cups and something to prove they are yours for our auction, I know they would really be popular and bring in lots of money. My group is Jessamine Cancer Buddies and my name is Ann Vincent, 602 S. Central Ave, Nicholasville, Ky. 40356. Please think about this and it would be an honor to present these for our group. Whoopee I love Sister, Act, Jumping Jack Flash and of course Ghost, but all are really my favorites. Thanks for all the laughs and tears.

Hi Jay, I don't watch the View much any more but about a week after this incident, I noticed she and Barbara seem to give each other a little more room and defer to one another more. Other than that, I don't know. Your questions are good and I have no answers.

Exactly what college did Whoopi attend? What are her credentials? When did this country begin to accept a "comedian"as the source of all knowledge?

TY for the information on Black History and the athem. I hadn't heard of it either. USA is made of many cultures and we still are learning to respect one another.

LET'S BE ACCURATE...I did not know where else to send this, so I thought this an appropriate place...
As a product of the SEGREGATED (public/southern)schools. I am dumbfounded & disappointed to hear noted African Americans who have nerev heard of the NEGRO National Anthem, written by James & Rosemond Johnson. Both were teachers at the Florida Baptist Academy (Foreruner of Florida Memorial College...then in Jacksonville). The song was written in Celebration of the Centennial of the EMANCIPATION. It can be found in the Baptist Hymnal and was required for learning by all children in the COLORED schools.
ALSO: Contrary to the running JOKE...
NEGRO History week is centerred around the Birthdays of Fredrick Douglass (whoDID NOT KNOW HIS BIRTHDAY, BUT selected Valentine's Day, because of the focus on LOVE); and Abe Lincoln, who freed the slaves.
It grew to a month-long celebration as more HISTORY was discovered and shared. Now, we are stressing "Black History 365".
    BTW

Krista, that's a good point. I hadn't thought of that. Thanks.

Why doesn't Barbara Walters leave Joy Behar in charge when she's gone? Joy is the only one who was there since day one. Everyone else is a newcomer. If I were Joy, I would feel insulted that Barbara won't leave me in charge.

I don't like the way she participates in getting negatives from other people to make a living. The schools know thier students and files, so why should she have access to other peoples' personal busines? Walgreen's 24 hour photo developing is off limits. She steals anybody's negatives for a picture. Don't deny "Sister Act 2." I am not catholic. I don't like pedofiles either. Where was that vow to poverty in 1993?

  • RM Gal1/24/2010

I've never seen The View. I am surprised there was no apology if Whoopi really did step on Barbara Walters toes on her BW's own show, no less. I will say, though, leave Roman Polanski alone. He's not a pedophile.
