The Walmart Diet

After years of struggling to lose weight I have finally found something that works and works well. For the past 18 years I have struggled to lose the weight that I gained when I was first pregnant. My own mother had the same problem after she had me. I tried cutting back on food and that did not help since I started to read the packages, bags and boxes the food came it and realized that even the smallest portions were way too many calories for me.

I had worked in a hospital about 5 years ago and took note that patients that were placed on diets had a 1200 to 1500 calorie limit for the day. If you look at most modern diets their limits are around 2000 calories a day. One of the doctors at the hospital had suggested to one of his patients the following: Drink 1 Slim Fast for breakfast and lunch then have a Weight Watchers frozen dinner, for dinner. I actually tried that but I always felt hungry and then finally went back to my old eating habits. So I developed a variation of that diet but I call it the "Walmart" diet because I buy everything at Walmart.

The beautiful part about the diet is that it is not followed everyday. You see most diets limit your daily intake but your body only responds to food over a longer period of time. Each 1000 calories less in your diet means you will loose 1 lb. You don't want to loose 1 lb a day but 2-3 lbs a week. So you need to cut down on your calorie intake over a greater period of time rather than just one day.

The diet like I said is not everyday. In the beginning you would follow the diet for 2 days then eat regular smaller meals on the 3rd day. You then repeat the process. What this diet does is shrink the stomach so that when the 3rd day comes in the cycle you will feel fuller and most satisfied on the smaller meals you are eating. Over time you can gradually go back to your normal foods, by then you will be eating much smaller portions. Another good thing to do is switch to smaller dinner plates. Smaller plates will remind you not to take too much.

The shopping list for the diet is as follows:
A box of Slim Fast drink - your choice of flavors
1 box of Quaker Oatmeal cereal bars or any box of snack type food with a 90-100 calorie limit to each bag or box.
Fresh fruit that is hand held such as apples, bananas or peaches.
Yogurt
Water
Diet soda

The diet is as follows:
Day 1
1 can Slim fast for breakfast
1 can Slim fast for lunch or 1 yogurt
Mid afternoon snack - 1 snack food of 100 calories or less or one piece of fruit, your choice
Lean Cuisine or another frozen type dinner with a calorie limit of 800 calories for dinner.
Drink all the water or diet soda you want.

Day 2 - repeat day one

On the third day you can start it off with a Slim fast drink or not. If you eat a cereal just have a very small bowl. I would stay away from the ham and eggs type of breakfasts unless you skip lunch and snacks entirely for the rest of the day. For dinner keep your portions small. You will feel stuffed after eating about half of what you would normally eat.

On the 4th day return to the diet and start the cycle over again. The best part about this diet is that it can be modified very easily to fit your rate of weight loss. I weigh myself everyday and I have found that to be a big boost to my outlook when I am on this diet. I only look for a ΒΌ lb loss over 2 days so it keeps me on track.
