The Warrior Diet

Is it for You?

Perhaps you have heard of this diet called the Warrior Diet, but chances are you haven't. As someone who constantly researches new diet trends and ways of eating, I can honestly say that this is the most unique that I have ever heard of. The basic idea of this diet is that you eat very little to nothing during the day, and at night you eat all the food for the whole day. The reasoning is that this is a more natural way of eating, because our ancestors didn't have a refrigerator to just open up and grab some food from whenever they got a little hungry. They had to hunt for their food during the day, and then at night was when they would eat. The creator of the diet, Ori Hofmekler, says that being hungry during the day is a natural feeling, and people should not be afraid of this.

I decided to give this diet a shot a couple of years ago. Although I wasn't looking to lose any weight, I just wanted to see how I would feel while eating this way, and if I would notice any health benefits from this. I can honestly say that it has changed my life. I still follow this diet, and it has become a way of life for me now. The first few weeks were somewhat difficult to control cravings for food during the day, because I was so used to eating 3 meals a day my whole life. But after a little while, my body started to adapt to these phases of undereating and overeating, and I would actually have more energy during the day than If i would eat. Another benefit I noticed was that my skin became clearer. Hofmekler says that the undereating phase during the day allows for your body to detoxify itself, which follows the ancient practice of fasting for detoxification.

The best part of this diet is the overeating phase at night. Although many nutritionists say that eating a lot of food before bed is not healthy, I have personally never agreed with this belief. I personally am usually tired after eating a very large meal, because my body is using a lot of energy to digest the food. It just seems natural to sleep after eating. Something that also takes a little getting used to is eating enough at night. You are probably not used to eating two thousand calories or more in one sitting, so this takes some getting used to. One rule is to eat meat and protein first, then carbohydrates. Other than that, you can pretty much eat whatever you want for dinner, within reason.

My favorite thing about this way of eating is that my body has become accustomed to not eating during the day, so I really don't start to get hungry until four or five o'clock. I don't have to worry about eating breakfast in the morning, or bringing lunch when I go out somewhere. I just drink water throughout the day, and at night I eat until I feel stuffed. This may seem like a good way to gain weight, but I actually have steadily lost a couple pounds per month; something I wasn't even trying to do.

If you are someone who has trouble keeping snacking impulses in check during the day, or would just like to improve your overall health, I think this diet is worth a shot. As I said, this diet has become a lifestyle change for me now, and I cannot imagine going back to eating three meals a day. I would recommend giving this a shot, because it could change your life the way it has changed mine.
