The battlefield is empty;
Mist has covered;
The top of the mountain;
The enemy is not visible;
And the warriors eyes sting;
He can no longer see;
Who is his enemy?
Who is his friend?
He can no longer tell;
Even though his friends;
Patiently held him up;
Through many a battle;
He rejects them all;
And he stumbles away;
Cursing into the night;
The first light of morning;
Reveals only his dropped sword;
His shield is beyond repair;
Comrades stare in bewilderment;
He has left them standing;
On the hillside alone;
To fend for themselves;
Weary of the fight;
Their weaponry rendered useless;
Friends and foes meet;
They agree to disagree;
Everyone goes home

This is indeed powerful. I can really feel the heartbreak in your words.
All of the other issues aside, you are right, this is a suberb piece as far as prose goes. Excellent!
