The Warrior in You

A Shakespearean Sonnet

Tara M. Clapper

And then I saw the warrior in you

Wrapped beneath the stories of your lost years;

In the way you moved and rough attitude

Was a language of permeating fears.

When first I met kind lover in your eyes

I sought to temper it with my disdain

For lives of past, the rain, and my demise

Know life keeps living without brief refrain--

In giving so I could get what needs met

Demands and curiosity's sunrise.

But no resolution stands to love yet,

A dawn upon my moonlight will apprise.

I now offer comfort when the moon wanes;

Pitcher full of wine, I married that refrain.
