United States of America
KOA stands for Kampgrounds of America and are sort of the chain of campgrounds. You'll find pretty much the same amenities and be assured of cleanliness. This KOA isn't much different than others in which we've stayed. This is being written at the campground and thus in the present.
This KOA is owned by a couple who were very nice when I checked in at the cute log cabin type office. The office is large with plenty of RV supplies and food as well as jewelry in case you forgot yours and you are going to a wedding!
This is a small (70 site) campground. We were shown to our spot by one of the owners. We were lucky enough to get what is called a pull through site so we didn't have to deal with backing into a space. The site is gravel with grass around it. We have a picnic table and a fire pit. Unfortunately not all people pick up after their dogs!
The Washington/Pittsburgh SW KOA has a chained-in space in which we took Hanna and were able to take her off leash. We were leery knowing that not all campers are courteous in spite of being given a pick up bag for our dog.
The campground has a beautiful playground for children. The wood unit looks new. I saw a sandbox in this area as well. The clean swimming pool was open and given it is in the 90s here right now was very much welcome. Also offered are hayrides, volleyball, and horseshoes,
We have full service i.e. electricity, water, and sewer. We are getting quite a few television channels. In spite of the sites being wi fi connected and getting a code to enter, the connection was so slow that we used our activated cell phones as modems so don't expect to do any work here with their wi fi connection.
One troubling problem, which is not at all unusual for the low rent areas in which we find campgrounds, is that we are so close to the highway the hum is constant. Sitting outside and reading in quiet is not something we want to do. I don't consider The Washington/Pittsburgh SW KOA a destination campground. In other words it is fine if you are passing by or if you need to stay in the area in a campground then it is fine. I wouldn't come here for a week's vacation; however.
KOA is not known for being the least expensive campground. The Washington/Pittsburgh SW KOA is not as pricey as other KOAs in which we have stayed. The cost is $34.00 a night.
Also offered are cabins you can rent and a tenting area. The road is gravel as well so biking isn't that much fun but the kids won't mind.
The Washington/Pittsburgh SW KOA is located at 7 KOA Road Washington, PA. We have found that it has been taking us around 40 minutes to get into Pittsburgh. For information call (724) 225-7590, email leclairkoa@aol.com or visit them online at www.koa.com/where/pa/38146/.
