The Washington Redskins: Best Players of the 2000's

In the past decade, the Redskins have only managed to make the playoffs in 2005 and 2007. Redskins' owner Daniel Snyder has thrown money at any free agent that will even consider playing for the Redskins. Somehow the ones the Redskins get to sign are the same ones that have only one or two good years and then fall off the planet. Of all the players that wore a Washington Redskins jersey, these are the best five of the 2000's. (Only accomplishments and stats while playing for the Washington Redskins from 2000-2009 were considered.)

1. Clinton Portis - Since Portis joined the Washington Redskins in 2004, he has added stability to their running game. When Portis is healthy, the Redskins are a much better team. In his six seasons with the Redskins, he has rushed for 1,200 yards or more in four seasons. He added up way short of even 1,000 yards in those two seasons, not because he had bad games, but because injuries held him to only playing in half of the games.

2. Chris Cooley - Cooley was a 3^rd round draft pick of the Redskins in 2004, and has filled their need for a tight end ever since. Cooley has never wowed people by putting up 1,000-yard seasons, but has remained a consistent viable threat. Coming into 2009, he had four straight seasons with at least 50 receptions and 700 yards receiving. Injuries are the only thing that stopped him from getting to that same plateau again 2009.

3. Shawn Springs - Springs came over to the Redskins in 2004, after playing the first seven years of his NFL career with the Seattle Seahawks. In six seasons with Washington, the cornerback only had two seasons with more than one interception. In 2004, he had five interceptions, and then in 2007, he had four picks. Some players can't be measured by numbers alone, and Shawn Springs is one of those such players. No matter if he has picks or not, quarterbacks much prefer to throw away from him.

4. Santana Moss - From 2005-2009, Santana Moss was the best wide receiver the Redskins had. In his first season with the Redskins, Moss hauled in 84 grabs for 1,483 yards and nine touchdowns. Unfortunately for the Redskins, he couldn't keep up that kind of production and has only had one 1,000-yard season since. However, compared to the rest of the Redskins that have stuck around for a few seasons this past decade, Santana Moss is a beast. In his defense, he very well might have put up better numbers if he actually had somebody to throw the ball to him.

5. Lavar Arrington - Arrington never lived up to his big play potential. He was supposed to come to Washington and help lead the Redskins to the wonderland. Even though he never put the numbers he was expected to, he still did a solid job of filling up the middle. You would think with all the money that Snyder spent this past decade that the top 5 Redskins of the decade would be a lot better, but this is what you are left with.
