The Waters Surround Me

Brenda C. Lewis
I walk down to the place
where I hear the river flowing,
My mind, overwhelmed with
the nightmare life has become.

I close my eyes and think
back to a time of childrens laughter
In this place,this very place,
Voices drowning out
the sweet peace of the river.

In my mind,
I see their faces,
hear their voices,
the splashing of water,
the laughter of my children.

I sit on the rock alone,
a tear running down
an older,sadder cheek,
dropping to the stone beneath me.

A child runs down
and joins me on the rock.
My youngest child
He is my rock now.

His voice drowns out
the sounds of the sweet river running,
but his voice is sweeter
than the rivers' ever was.

I love the way you use nature to convey the depth of feelings you are going through now. There is true beauty in your poetry and in your strength. Thank you for your wonderful poem.
