Wikipedia was created back in 2001 and has since became on of the most used and largest online reference sites.
It's a volunteer based site that you, the user, updates if it is needed and well some pages like the administrator page is locked of course, this is a rare thing to not be able to edit a topic, and you can edit a topic by simply clicking the edit topic link on the top right hand page. The people who create and edit articles in Wikipedia come from countries all around the world and have a wide range of ages and backgrounds. On this site you have an option to edit without being known or creating a free account with lots of frequently asked questions available and then writing and editing as you want and need to. Anyone who contributes to this encyclopedia site by writing or updating information according to the information on the site is called a "Wikipedian".
To become a wikipedian you do not need to have any formal education, and training or anything of the sort. You just need to have the ability to type and give complete and accurate information and site when you have the ability to.
This site has gotten a lot of publicity lately and has been in the spotlight due to the fact of the update of the biography of Chris Benoits' page to display that he had missed a match due to the death of the wife of this person, before her body and her sons and Chris was found 14 hours after the posting was made.
Don't let this fool you though this site is one that you can get a lot of information off of you just need to be sure that there is something cited on it otherwise the information that you get of it may or may not be accurate.
People are saying that in a few years this site is going to be huge and booming, and I believe it you can look up most anything from recipes to you name it and you can find out something on here. If you cant find it then go ahead put it on there so others can, it is what most people like to call a user friendly site, or peer to peer information. So hop on you have something you want to add or something that needs to be edited go for it we are all on this site to help one another.
