The New Way to Order Take Out

Online, Using Services Such as Campusfood.Com And Orderiton.Com

Alexis Devan
As someone who frequently orders food from restaurants for both lunch and dinner, I have found two online ordering services to be the most reliable and offer the most diverse restaurants to purchase from. While it is becoming more and more common for restaurants to open their own online ordering systems, these one-stop-shop online ordering services are something you should check out. Not only because they are convenient, but also because if you use them frequently, they offer discounts and cash back awards. For many ethnic take out restaurants like Chinese, Indian and Japanese take out joints, it is often the best way to communicate your order rather than grappling over the phone with someone who is just learning or has a poor command of the English language. The only downside to these sites is that daily specials are not updated as often as if you were to visit to restaurant directly, but they are still increasingly convenient.

The most used ordering service I have used since discovering in while in college in providence, RI is campusfood.com. The name may seems like it's a service only for college students but if you live within a certain distance of a college campus you may order from them as well (although there are some student only bonuses-but if you register as a student beyond asking what college you attend there isn't really any system to check if you are). For example, I work right by a major state university and I have 15 available restaurants from which I can order. This service uses both small business as well as franchise restaurants like dominos and pizza hut in which you may order from. Some offer delivery while others only offer pick up, but they both offer the ability to pay with cash or credit which is a huge convenience.

The second service that I have just started using more recently it called orderiton.com. This is very similar to campus food but it is not directed or intended for any particular audience other than those looking for a meal. The best thing that this service offers is an option upon check out to request a confirming call from the establishment. Since I have begun using this service I have not once had any issues in getting the incorrect order or address of any particular establishment. All this does is broaden the range of restaurants that offer online take out supplementing the restaurants that campus food does not offer.

Campusfood got its start in 1997 when President Michael Saunders, then a student at University of Pennsylvania, decided there was an easier and more convenient way to order his tuna hoagie than over the phone.
