The Weird Places Where Cats Sleep: Pans, Bowls and More Odd Resting Spots

Paula Myers
Our cat can sleep in some really weird places. You ask, why did he pick that spot? Every time you think that he has picked the weirdest place, he will find an even better one. Not only is it the place that he sleeps, but the position he sleeps in is really weird. He changes sleeping places throughout the day, too. It's really entertaining just to watch him. The following is a list of places that my cat has picked to sleep. I hope you enjoy reading about them as much as I have watched him sleeping there.

Candy Bowl
My husband put our Halloween candy for the trick-or-treaters in a large orange plastic bowl. Our cat watched all the activity going on at the front door Halloween night. Seeing all the children dressed up in their costumes and taking candy out of that bowl all night long was really exciting for him. The next day, with some Halloween candy still in the bowl, Snooks, the cat, decided that it was just the perfect spot for him to take a nap. We thought that it was so funny him sleeping in that bowl. All the kids had to take a picture of him with their cell phone. My daughter used the picture for her screensaver.

Metal Pan
When Snooks was a kitten, he loved to sleep in my pots and pans. It didn't matter what size they were. He started sleeping in the big one first. He then graduated to the small sauce pan. If a pan wasn't available, he would sleep in a skillet. He loved to take naps in all of them.

Kitchen Chair
Snooks like to sit up on a chair, turned around backwards with his front feet crossed over the back of the it. He looks very uncomfortable. He will assume this position when he wants to see what's going on in the kitchen. Every time someone passes him, they will pet him. It's a good way to get attention. Sometimes, he will fall asleep sitting like this.

Computer Chair

Snooks will see a vacancy in my computer chair. I will be cooking supper and he thinks that this chair is the best spot in the house to sleep. Or I can just leave the computer for a minute, and he will take over my chair. Sometimes, he will jump in my lap and take a nap while I'm typing. Have you ever typed with a cat in your lap? It's really difficult to do.

Window Sill
Sometimes, a window sill is the best place to sleep. Snooks can spend hours sitting there, watching the world go by. He finally falls asleep from pure exhaustion. The window sill is a bit narrow for him since he's put on some weight. I hope he doesn't fall off.

Back of Couch
Snooks really likes to sleep on the back of the couch. He straddles out, looking like a bear skin rug. He likes to switch back and forth from the couch to the loveseat.

As you can see, our cat likes to sleep in some weird places. And he likes to change spots frequently. I'm sure your cat sleeps in some weird places too. Our cat just keeps us entertained all day long. I don't know what I would do without him. Probably do a lot more typing.

We had a cat like liked to sleep in a big wooden salad bowl or in a plastic dishpan under the sink Another would sleep under bed covers or on a tree branch like a panther or jaguar

What a fun article! We've got four cats and they like sleeping in odd places as well; the big ones always in the smallest spots, and the smaller one on the biggest of dog beds. Sometimes it's the bathroom sink, sometimes it's on a stamp that's been dropped to the floor. Many times, the funniest spot they sleep in, is on top of each other. :) Nothing cuter than a whole pile of kitties pretending to be comfortable.

I like this article. Sarah (my cat) tends to sleep wherever she wants too. Most of the time, it's "normal cat" places, like under the table. There are times, though, when I find her in the computer chair! She also loves to get on the desk... but yeah. Good job.

I don't have a cat, but this is still a cute article! :)

You missed the one place they most often stretch out to nap: on the newspaper that you are trying to read that is spread out on the table. I do not have cats, but many grandcats who were once kittens. Yes I have typed with cats in my lap; Sancho especially did not want to give up the computer seat for me and would try the keyboards next. They also seem to prefer sleeping curled up on my lap to anyone elses. One of the cats likes to crawl under the covers of a made bed and another tore up the netting on the boxspring to sleep up in there.

My cats are big fans of the back of the couch too. They also like to sleep behind a table in the corner of my dining room, in my cupboards and on top of my cable box, although I keep chasing them off of that last one:)

My cat sleeps in weird places too.
