The White Light Around You
All around you was a glow.
A halo of white light.
Tremulous at first,
but then growing strong.
There, when you stood
it was above you
your head crowned
with a shimmering
white light
so alive
it was never still.
There, when you sat down
to rest against the white wall
the white light was whiter yet
a soft nimbus
turning when you turned
to look off
into the distance.
But when you were
at her funeral
speaking of your love for her
the light pulsed and flashed
around you
so vibrant
it took my breath away.
and I wondered who else saw it.
And when you
waited quietly to pray
the white light waited too
steady, shining
around your head
and shoulders.
But until you danced
I never knew
the white light dances too
exuberant and electric
full of life
showing me
God is with you.
