The White Nail Polish Trend

One of the latest trends in fashion and beauty is white nail polish. Seems like it's everywhere. From sheer to opaque, celebrities and regular folks have been seen sporting this trend. With Memorial Day having just passed, as the official time to start wearing white, the white nail polish trend will likely explode. White nail polish isn't just for the tips anymore.

The white nail polish trend has already been spotted on Gabrielle Union, Charlize Theron and Hayden Pannetierre. Both opaque whites and sheer whites seem to be involved in this trend, with a few light pinks tossed in for effect.

Choosing Your Perfect Shade of White:

This shouldn't be rocket science, but here are a few tips to choose a shade of white that will look good on you. Use this as a general guide, as not all white nail polishes are created the same. If you are pale skinned, aim for a rose or cream base to your opaque white. Or go sheer. Antique white, or a light pink are great choices. If you are dark skinned or tanned, ladies, you're golden. The white nail polish trend was made for you. If you have a medium skin tone, especially if you are olive complexioned, avoid the creams. Anything with a yellow base will just make you appear greener. Go with stark white or an off white if stark white seems to much for you.

Wearing white nail polish is easier then one might think. Even with the cheap nail polishes, white is easy to maintain, and doesn't stain as one might fear. For added protection and longevity, throw a clear coat or topcoat on top of the white nail polish. Use multiple coats to prevent streaking.

The downside of white nail polish, as any woman who has had French tips knows, a chip stands out. And like most nail polishes, the cheaper the enamel, the easier it chips. Using a base coat as well as a topcoat can help reduce the number of chips. The bonus of white nail polish though is white nails are extremely easy to fix. Keep a bottle of enamel with you, and just put a dab of polish on any chips that occur. White blends near seamlessly. Go out and wear white nail polish with confidence!
