The Why Instead of How

Jon Sumait
A bit poetic, I'll admit. But I don't really know another way to be. Well, that's complete b.s., but let's move on. Since I've been on this site, and many other sites, the real articles that usually catch the public's attention are the "How to" guides.

How to ruin your life, is my contribution to the pool of pieces, and that is my most popular article among my humble collection. That makes me think of our society's way of thinking. We all have that bit of "git r' done" inside of our hearts. Of course, we are all also philosophers, in one aspect or another.

Yet, more people are worried about the "how" instead of the "why"--how to live our lives instead of why we should live our lives in certain ways. This is just how America is now. That's kind of weird to say, at least for me, because I only know so much and experienced as much as I can for my age. But, I'm sure great minds that affected the world were once my age. I'm not saying I will be considered great, but I hope I am.

Anyways, the point of what I'm saying and why I'm saying it is that I'm more interested in why to do something instead of how to do something (at least, until I really do need to know how to do something) because when we understand more of life, we are that much closer to finding the absolute truth as opposed to just knowing how to live life.

If there is just one thing I want those that read this to take from this, it's to question life more often. Ask yourself why you're standing in line at Starbucks or watching a commercial about male enhancement. Why are advertisements appealing to your emotions when you know, in hindsight, that sneakers will not give you things like motivation or determination or even victory. You achieve those things by yourself; not with buying a certain brand of sneakers.

Question life in search of truth.
Why search for truth?
Well, why don't you find out.
