The Wiki and the Wicked of Santa Clara Sheriff Laurie Smith

In this day and age anyone can get their 15 minutes, or alter some one's 15 minutes, or re-write someone's 15 minutes. The wonderful world of Wiki, the wondrously helpful, yet notoriously untrustworthy internet resource knows the world over can help you do all that.

Wiki is a source based on trust and honesty. Some play with it like some friends of a company notorious for pranks that lists their founder incorrectly. Some abuse it, like a man whose name the Santa Clara County voters should know. Okay, they may not know his name, but they know his wife's name. Why? You ask? Because she's your Sheriff, a figure of justice, truth, fairness and integrity, that's why. She is a person who wants you to know the truth and is proud of her accomplishments, even if it meant coming through the darkest of controversies to get there. Or that's what one would like to believe of their lead law enforcement personnel isn't it?

So, what does her husband have to do with this and what is his name again, you ask? Brannan Smith. Brannan Smith plays into this because behind the scenes Brannan is a busy bee, making phone calls, sending emails, making sure everyone supporting Laurie Smith is in line, feet together, face forward. He lets everyone know you're in line by doing things like sending out campaign emails to all supporters with all the emails openly listed. What would a Sheriff's candidate know or care about individual privacy, right? But again you drag me back to wiki - What is your wiki point, already!

My wiki point is that Sheriff Smith's integrity and honesty is being hurled into the pit of questionability by her very own husband. To attempt to stop some of the abuses, wiki some years ago now includes a history tab so people can view who made changes and what changes. This gives a person the ability to decide for themselves the integrity of some of the information provided.

Reviewing Sheriff Smith's wiki history tab is an exercise in comedy. Littered by changes made by her husband followed sometimes with someone clearly tired of chasing the people who play with information making comments like, (Reverted changes by Brannansmith that do not reflect sources and misplaced refs. onto different statements.).

This went on for the month of December. Then strangely some one named "Steve24" showed up in place of Brannan in February to begin the questionable changes. Steve24 appears to be from Los Gatos and has a lengthy history changing up local political wiki's going back a number of years. Steve24 removed recently added and well documented items such as Sheriff's Smith's attempt to gain the appointment of the Governor to lead CHP, calling it speculative. It wasn't only not speculative, by all reports, Sheriff Smith was so sure she had the position that officials close to the governor were naming her name to media like SF Gate and the L.A. Times as one of the top 3 candidates. The only speculative part of this is who is Steve24 and why is he removing established fact as speculative, unsourced material from the Sheriff's wiki?
