The Wild Turkey Gang

My Son's Experience with a Wild Turkey Gang

Shana Dines
My son likes to go down to the river and fish by himself to relax. We had noticed that there were wild turkeys that seemed to hang around in that area. Sometimes there would be as many as 10 or 12 of them just hanging around in the neighbor's driveway. We joked about the wild turkey gang down the street.

Michael went down to fish one day and was run off by this wild turkey gang. We had to laugh because we could picture them with their leather jackets, switchblades and leathers chasing him up the hill. We asked him if they were on motorcycles when they chased him out of their territory.

The odd thing is that we haven't seen the turkey gang around in some time. I wonder if Thanksgiving may have something to do with it. Some of the neighbors down by the river feed them and keep them almost as pets. I am afraid that they have spoiled them and turned them into a juvenile delinquent turkey gang. Now they think that they own the territory. Some really hungry people may have outsmarted them though.

Most people probably know that turkeys are not very smart. They actually have died from drowning by looking up when there is a downpour, not knowing enough to keep their heads down. They also have been known to stampede each other to death, but then Walmart shoppers have done that to.

I feel bad about eating pigs and cows, but actually can't muster up too much pity for turkeys although I still wish that I could be superior enough to be a vegetarian. It ain't gonna happen in this lifetime.

Back to the turkey gang, I wouldn't want to mess with a turkey gang though. My son didn't either. It took him a while to venture down to the land of the turkey motorcycle gang. I swear that they actually seemed to swagger. I wouldn't be surprised if they were down by the river drinking, smoking dope and making crystal meth. I still think that they aren't to be messed with. I bet their meat is really tough and wild too. I am sticking to a nice domesticated Butterball, or at least a generic frozen turkey from my friendly neighborhood Meijer's where Gary the zombie works.

While I am at it I will add to my guilt by getting a spiral ham for those in the family whom like the turkey side dishes but aren't turkey fans. I hope everyone has a wonderful blessed Thanksgiving. I hope you can find not only things to be thankful for, but also a little humor in this life. It has been hard in these stressful economical and uncertain times. God bless you all. You are very special to me my dear AC friends.

I'm sure the turkey gang is still around...in diminished numbers. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving, Shana! :)

I'm a meat-eater, too- I don't feel guilty. We have a lot of wild turkeys around here, too, but there's a no discharge of a firearm ordinance, otherwise it would be like shooting fish in a barrel!

This was so great! Yes, I do look for humor in most everything in life. Sometimes it's the only way to get through a really tough time.

Fun read. Those turkey gangs are a menace to society and deserve to be eaten. Happy Thanksgiving!
