Winter is the season of memories and of visions of the future. Only in this season can you stand somewhere and reminisce "What happened two years ago, ten years ago, twenty years ago?" Only in this season can you stand somewhere and contemplate "What will the future hold for me? Will my big project happen? Will I go someplace? Will I see the person that I love again?" Maybe it's all because of the coldness. Maybe that's why a person can think and feel so differently through the winter. The coldness is a major part, but I don't think that's the only thing. The smell of the falling snow, the dim lights in the black night... It all contributes and makes this season so perfect. But enough about that. It's time I showed you what I mean.
Imagine this freezing December night. Snow is falling, traffic is jammed and a person can barely walk. The wind is chilling to the bone and your face is all red. Your nose is running, your ears are like frozen icicles. No matter how tight you have clothed yourself this morning, no matter how many jackets you are wearing on, you still can feel the wind as it freezes your brain inside your skull. You are feeling numb, tired. And, finally, you reach home. You are back from work, school or wherever you have been the whole day. And as you enter your warm abode your heart can do nothing else but to feel the happiest of joys in the world. Comfort. It is bestowed upon you.
And so you are finally home. You can take off those damn wet clothes and change into more comfortable ones. You have sweet warm dinner in front of the TV or, even better, while reading an enjoyable book. And when you are done, here we see the beauty. You sit on the couch or the bed or wherever you feel most comfortable. You take the book with you, naturally. You make yourself a hot cup of tea (the best choice, but you can take your pick), coffee or just a glass of wine. And as you read and drink through the steaming cup in blissful silence you can take a look through the window.
You will see the night. The snowflakes are sluggishly falling through the chilly air. The dark grey clouds are filling the sky. The freezing wind is shaking roughly those naked branches of the trees.
And you are staying at your warm home. You have a hot cup in your hands. And you are doing what you love most. Reading, watching, playing - it doesn't matter what it is. You are in the blissful state of unattainable comfort. And you have attained it. The only time of the year that one can truly appreciate and adore such a comfort is when winter comes. We can appreciate the warmness and the comfort only after we have felt the chill of the vicious freezing wind.
By this time you will start contemplating about various things. It is normal. Your heart should be filled with content. You, safe in your home, finally resting after the long hard day. You deserve it.
And after a while you may slowly fall asleep. And at the moment your eyes close, you will experience such gratitude to the higher beings that surround you with such warmness and comfort, that it will be one of the happiest moments of your life.
I can only say one thing to that - good night. And sleep tight.
