The Winter Solstice, and My Birthday

A Winter Solstice Poem

Chris Matteson
I wake up in the morning, while the sun is still down.

I take a shower and brush my teeth, and after, the sun is still not found.

After I eat my hardy morning meal, I look out the windows

I look for the sun, but only the moonlight shows.

As I drive to work at mid-day, the sun peaks above the horizon.

By lunch time, the sun is falling and appears to be wizen.

As I complete my workday, I go out to my car and drive home.

I look at the horizon, but all I see is a bright dome.

Pulling out of my parking spot, I turn on the lights.

For I know when I get home, it will be night.

Walking into my house, I turn on the lamp.

A wave of screams, causes me to cramp.

A smile I release and ecstatic I display.

For today is the winter solstice, and my birthday.
