The Woman's Responsibility as an Egg Donor

Bleibtr3
I am not for or against egg donor-ship. I feel that it is truly up to the person who is donating the egg. If they are in debt and need money, they are capable of deciding what they want to do with their egg. They can go sell it to the highest bidder because they need the money or feel that they want to help a couple that cannot make a baby on their own. They can also keep it because giving it away goes against their religion, ethics, or it intervenes with one of their activities.

What matters a lot to me is that the egg that is being donated becomes a healthy, loved, and cared for child. When people are offering $50,000 for an egg I think that they will be able to care for the child. As long as the eggs are not going to people who are already poor or unable to handle the responsibility of caring for a child, then I think if the woman feels it is within her ethics and religion, she should be able to make the decision whether or not to give up her egg.

If donating an egg goes against a female's ethics, religion, or intervenes in something that she does like basketball where an organization like the NCAA says that "Any student who receives money based directly or indirectly on athletic ability would be ineligible for play" then that woman should not be forced to give up her egg. She shouldn't even be pressured into it, however it is still always her choice. If her religion does not allow this type of action than she can refuse the operation. If she feels that the operation is ethically wrong than she can say no to it. As long as the woman has a choice in the operation than this procedure is ok.

Many college students are in debt, they have to pay for increasing tuition fees, books, and so on. Money in proportions such as $50,000 is not easy to come by. If a woman needs money to pay for college and can't find any other way to pay, then she should be able to decide what to do with her egg. The system should not become abused to the point where it degrades women to selling their eggs as their main line of work. This seems to degrade women to only being able to produce babies, just in a different form that puts us back many years in the women's rights movement. The choice to go through with the operation must stay with the women and women must not abuse this system.

The choice must remain with the women in this procedure. I neither oppose nor support this procedure I just feel it should be monitored and not allowed to get out of control. Where the egg goes needs to be watched and made sure that it is not given to a poor or abusive family that would not be able to care for it properly. Women should not be degraded and must not be allowed to degrade themselves by making this their line of work. There must be limits on how many eggs one woman can donate. Limitations must be put in place to control egg donations and women must always have the choice to just walk away.
