The things you taught me oh so well I will always keep within me.
How could I not and turn out so swell.
Kids learn from what their parents say and do,
so it wouldn't do to be so blue.
Your words of wisdom I now know was swell, but back then
at times I thought I should not listen and I rebelled.
How lucky I am to have been loved so well. You never gave up on me I now can tell.
You taught me how to love by how you loved me,
for all I am I owe to thee.
You've been my teacher playmate and friend,
for this I give my thanks to no end.
I know I haven't been the child I should have been.
I don't know why you even bothered to make me bend.
I don't know why I did the things I did,
but underneath it all there was love that made me bend.
The years have passed and I am older now.
I understand things better now.
I know I must have disappointed you at times,
but there was still the love for each of us to mind.
Maybe we will never understand each other,
but in your heart you know I love you like no other.
I have learned to wield my inner light,
and follow yours with all my might.
Thought we may fight and anger one another at times.
The love is always there to take us through these bad times.
