It all started when my niece came over and asked to borrow my computer. Usually I freak out and don't let anyone get closer than 2 feet from my keyboard, but hey it's family. So she then logged into her MySpace account and started 'making her rounds' as she called it. Out of curiosity I asked her what it was all about. She told me and showed me the ropes. Before you know it, we had begun the process of making my very own page. Basically, after the initial setup, I forgot I even had a myspace account. It wasn't until I started hearing my co-workers talk about it until I got really involved with it.
But I don't think I was the average Myspace addict. I really wasn't obsessed with having a million friends or being at the top of others friends list. I was more interested in making Myspace really unique. So I learned a little HTML and CSS and got to scripting my own layout. My first attempt to do it from scratch failed miserably. I later found out that Myspace had specific code that you had to use if you wanted to modify anything on it. After spending several days researching I came to the conclusion that using Myspace's code to get my own look was going to be next to impossible. So I dug a little deeper and stumbled onto creating div overlays. That's when my passion for Myspace really took off.
Once I got it looking the way I wanted it to, I started filling it in with content and adding friends. Before you know it I was checking Myspace page everyday. I simply became infatuated with the fact that I have my own little space on the web. I could talk about anything I wanted and if people took an interest, they could become a friend and post comments. And that I could make it look different than 90% of everyone elses page.
Sadly, this didn't last too long. I came to the conclusion that if I was going to tell the world about me and what's on my mind, it's going to take a lot more than a cover page and a blog. I also grew frustrated with the limited options you had for customizing your page. So I turned to Google and found something better, Tagworld.
Tagworld is just like any other online social network. You make a page, add some friends, post some pictures and customize the look. Well, I can't exactly say that it is that simple. My first impressions of this place blew my mind. I am not sure if it was just the way you customized your page or the fact taht it was just different. Either way, I pretty much set up my Tagworld page and immediately started telling all of my Myspace friends about it. To my surprise, no one else thought it was as great as I did. I just simply couldn't understand it.
Let's take at just a few of the differences between Myspace and Tagworld.
Tagworld
- More than one page!
- More than one comment section.
- Customize your page(s) using 0 HTML/CSS code!
- Each page can have it's own privacy privileges.
- Much better Audio/Video Player.
Myspace
- One page
- Once comment section
- Media player needs some work (artists keep removing their songs)
- You have to know HTML/CSS to make significant changes to your page (or know a page that does it for you).
- If your page is private, so is your blog
Now this may not seem like a very big deal to most of you. To me, it was a godsend! I was so glad that I was able to modify my pages without having to sift through a bunch of jumbled text looking for the background color of my table table table, td td, table secion. Man that got old fast! I was also pleased that I didn't have to go to another popup infested website to get a new layout for my pages. The way you set it up is so simple that there is no need for such a site. The hours on end that I used to spend looking for a new layout has come to an end! I can finally get my pages looking the way I want them without having to copy/paste or use any HTML/CSS.
I also enjoyed the fact that you can set the amount of columns you want. Of course, you are limited to at least one and no more than 3. But hey, Myspace doesn't even have that option. The navigation bar, the header and the footer section are really unique as well. I feel that I have more control over the pages I create at Tagworld.
So, if you're tired of Myspace or are just looking for something different, check out Tagworld. It's got more options, more flexibility and it's a heck of a lot easier to use than Myspace.
